Student Service's Corner-Being Prepared in Times of Uncertainty
Is What I'm Experiencing "Normal?"
Most likely, the answer is 'YES" in times of collective trauma, when more people are experiencing the same during disaster or crises, it can be common for people to experience any number of fluctuating thoughts, feelings,, symptoms or reactions to the current state of being. Sometimes we might find ourselves questioning, "Is my reaction normal?"
Our world is presently experiencing abnormal conditions, and, most likely, you are reacting naturally, and doing the best you can, given your new environment and situation.
These can be some of our Emotional reactions:
Fear
Grief
Anger
Helpless
feeling overwhelmed
These can be some of our Physical reactions:
Tension
Headaches
Fatigue
Aches and pains
COPING AND RESILIENCY UNDER CURRENT CONDITIONS
Being kind and patient: A little grace and compassion can go a long way
Focus on what you can control: Do you best to let go of what you can't control
Breathe and take breaks: Try to practice4-5-6 breathing. Breathe in for 4 seconds and out for 5 seconds. You heart will naturally slow down
Take care of your body: Try well-balanced meals, get fresh air and exercise and plenty of sleep
Communicate: Share your feelings and needs with others, friends, and family to build a strong support system
Setting Goals: If life feels too overwhelming write out your goals that can be achievable , journal and express your feelings
