Glenealy School Newsletter
10th December 2020
Message from Chris
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As always, time has flown by here at Glenealy and we find ourselves at the end of Term 1. As a community we have shown great resilience, adaptability and teamwork. I’m very proud of our students, our teaching teams and of course you the parents and caregivers who have transitioned from distance learning to blended learning and back to distance learning again. We were hoping to be back at school for full days before the 4th wave hit. Unfortunately it was not possible, we are however optimistic about the opportunities for learning that the New Year may bring.
It has been a rewarding term in many ways. Our newest members of the Glenealy Community, our Year 1 students have settled brilliantly into the school and are making great progress. We have been able to maintain the momentum of learning and progress for all students both on site and at a distance. In amongst the various challenges we have faced as a community in HK and across the world, we have done all we can to ensure daily life in school or online is a positive and uplifting one for our students.
Recycling Schemes - Tetrapaks and Christmas Trees
We have not been able to run Tetrapak recycling collections since the start of school suspension last January. We are very thankful that many families have been continuing to collect and wash their tetrapaks, and have sent them directly to the recycler at: 82 Fuk Hi Street Yuen Long Industrial Estate.
Good news: the Environmental Protection Department has worked to develop their recycling scheme and there are now a series of collection points throughout the city. This means that you can now drop your clean recycling (including Tetrapaks) at these green stations at your convenience. Interestingly, the Tetrapaks will still find their way to the same recycler if you use the 6green recycling stations.
The website here will help you to find your nearest collection point and you can also see which other items can be recycled (including Christmas trees). Thank you to everyone for helping to protect the planet for our student's future.
End of Term Assembly
We hope you enjoyed the ‘Sparkly Singalong’ and a quick reminder about the ‘End of Term Assemblies’ on Friday 11th December
We would like to invite all students and parents to join us for our End of Term assemblies this week. If parents are at home with students - please join us for some Christmas cheer and GGT (Glenealy’s Got Talent) performances. Santa hats and festive jumpers are welcome. Children will have the links to the assembly on their timetable. The assemblies will be on the last afternoon of term on Friday 11th December:
1:30 pm - Years 1, 2 and 3
2:15 pm - Years 4, 5 and 6
We hope to see you there to celebrate the students’ creative, performance and presentation skills.
I would like to quickly say a farewell to our leavers. It is this time of year where some families in our community choose to leave our school, often returning to home countries, or moving on with work. We collectively wish families leaving Glenealy all the very best for the future. You will always be welcome here at Glenealy should you wish to return and pay us a visit!
Finally, I would like to thank the whole community for making this term such a success under such trying conditions. I am looking forward to all we can achieve together as we move into 2021 and beyond.
I wish our whole community a wonderful holiday season and look forward to seeing you all upon return on Monday 4th January refreshed and ready for the new term to begin. Whether that is at a distance or in person remains to be seen and I will contact you with details as soon as they become available to me.
With very best wishes
Chris
