Gompers journey...#180daysofwhy
Lots of "BUSY" buttttt LOTS and LOTS of Thankful Happenings in #GATORNATION!
Every day is THANKSGIVING....I start the day by giving thanks to my creator for another day with a sound mind, body, and health. I then continue with my THANKSGIVING for my family and loved ones.
Team Gompers as I reflect on the many things for which I am thankful, I want to take this opportunity to share just a few of them with you: I am thankful for our students who come to school every day ready to learn – they give us all a daily reminder of what is important and why we are here. We are thankful for the support of the parents in creating an outstanding partnership for our students. I am thankful for the teachers and support staff, secretaries, nurses, lunchroom aides, therapists, recreation members who care about student achievement and have the best interests of our Gomper Gators at heart. I am thankful for our volunteers who enthusiastically contribute so much to our school each day.
I am sooooo THANKFUL for the dedicated and tireless individuals going above and beyond to make sure that great things happen in our school. You do make a difference, and the children, in their ways, benefit from those efforts.
Most importantly, I am thankful for the parents that have kept the faith in us. They continue to share their most valuable possession with us and—in most cases— work hard and advocate to be a partner in their children’s education, safety, and well-being.
Thank you for your hard work in preparing/completing parent-teacher conferences. These opportunities for communication support build a powerful collaboration for student and school success.
As I conclude my daily THANKSGIVING, I ask to be a THANKSGIVING to those in whom I serve through words, actions, and heart...
I am thankful for you Team Gompers!

Gompers will raffle 65 CHROMEBOOKS to families
Throughout our school district, Superintendent Steinhauser has made available to all schools a process for giving away "refurbished Chromebooks" to families to use at home supporting their child's access to the technology online programs that are used at school.
2. Every family who attends their child's parent conference will receive an "additional entry" into the raffle for the opportunity to receive a "FREE CHROMEBOOK" to use at home.** I will place the form for you to complete per family who attend for a raffle additional entry**
November 18 we will announce the 65 family winners.
#GATORNATION is on the move: some MATH "food for thought"....
As students show their learning understanding in MATH, might I suggest" the following:
1. Students show their work for solving problems and their solutions to the problem in multiple ways.
2. Students should also explain their thinking using math vocabulary to solve problems as well. It should not just be procedural calculations in homework, quizzes, and or assessments.
3. Students should be engaged in the error analysis of problems as well, to identify the miscalculation or operations used. Additionally, explaining thinking of inappropriate steps.
4. Something to think about...as students are on online platforms such as Jiji, Khan Academy, Cool Math Games might want to have them reflect on their learning as they finish their online class time vs just closing or putting up the CHROMEBOOKS. A reflective question either to the whole class or in a journal; What math concepts did I work on today and how did this "online session/puzzle" support my math thinking??
Fooooood for thought.....
Thanks!

LBUSD is goingggggggg GREEN too!
Long Beach schools are going green. Teachers, support staff, administrators and parents who would like to assist with recycling and other sustainability efforts are invited to the Green Summit at Hughes Middle School from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 16. The school is at 3846 California Ave., Long Beach.
School district, city and local non-profit representatives will provide information on campus sustainability. Learn about the latest recycling changes and how to get started at your school with sorting and recovering food, cans, bottles, paper and more. The aim is for each school to have a green site coordinator.
A stipend rate is available for teachers/staff attending the summit (register in myPD for either the classified employee or certificated employee section of Course 9160).
Parents can RSVP at lbschools.net/green.
Contact pweinstein@lbschools.net, kwasinger@lbschools.net or dvandivort@lbschools.net.
