Standardized testing
I very much appreciate all the continued communication with us. It has been very good to speak with all of you on general questions and concerns. As we have stated in other conversations, we are going to be putting a great deal of energy into increasing the number of students who take this year's state standardized test. The state mandates a 95 percent test completion of our students. If you have questions about state standardized testing, please reach out and speak to us before any choices are made. We can only ask for that consideration by you and yours. We are always available to discuss those questions and concerns that you may have. Thank you for your time and consideration on this subject and I continue to look forward to future conversations. Have a great day. Thank you.

Tardy Policy and Attendance
We do want to address attendance issues, however. Chronic absenteeism is considered below 90%. Looking at Boron High School's data, 59% of our students are considered chronically absent. This astounding percentage is something we really want to focus on now and in the future as attendance is directly related to student success. The best learning environment is in a classroom with a teacher present where students are able to not only present for the lesson, but are also able to receive help from the teacher when needed. The following article, 10 Facts About School Attendance, has some eye opening data on how attendance affects students' education (Be sure to read the "read more" links as well).
We hope we all can continue to work together not only on improving tardies, but attendance as well.
Thank you!

Preparing Our Children for Their Futures
I will be discussing all of these options with the students by class and will have flyers to send home around the end of March. We are hoping to add at least one new elective this year and pushing forward with our A.V.I.D. school approach. The end of the year will be here before we know it!
General Information for Everyone
I wanted to alert you to some information that your student may not have shared with you or that you may not have heard about through any forms of communication. We now have an after school program that allows students to stay on campus from 3 PM - 4 PM and work on any assignments they need help with. A teacher is always present and transportation is provided for any student that chooses to stay (we do not need advance warning). This program runs Monday-Thursday every week unless otherwise stated. It is a great time for any students who need to make up homework, get some added support, or just have a quiet place to work.
