Power of Positivity

I stole this from Mrs. Hoover but I think it is a great message.

I hope you know by now how strongly I believe in the power of positive communications with parents/families/students. The Edutopia article below talks about using positive phone calls home to build relationships. I know some of you already do this, but I also know that calling parents makes some of you very nervous. Yes, calling the parents of all of your students would take a tremendous amount of time, but when you consider we have 180 days, maybe it seems more doable. Don't let the volume overwhelm you. Start small, set a goal, and see how it goes.

The end of the article challenges us to try and suggests that the effects for our students, our classes, and our school might be transformational. If the weather forecast holds true, we will likely have some elearning opportunities next week. Maybe an elearning day would be a good opportunity to make a few calls and maybe brighten a few parents day. I'm going to commit to making 5 positive parent phone calls next week. I hope many of you will join me. Let me know how it goes.

Something To Ponder

I saw this today and it stopped me in my tracks. I couldn't shake the feeling that I've been guilty of this at times. If you are struggling with a student behaviorally remember this. It's spot on and we have to teach the behaviors that we want and sometimes teach, and re-teach, and re-teach before it is natural for the student.
Big picture

Mr. Morgan Out

This week I have a case conference on Monday in Kendallville at 3:15 so I'll be leaving school a little early. I will be at IPLI on Wednesday in Indy so I'll be out all day (and I'm guessing you guys won't be at school with -40 degree temps).

Next week I'll be gone to PBL training with Mr. Knipper, Mrs. Vice, and Mrs. Wesson Monday-Thursday. So if we don't have much school this week you will be getting a nice break from my ugly mug!

Love 'Em, Are You All In?

I know you all hear the morning announcements telling the students that if no one has told them lately, we want them to know they are loved by us! Well, I want you all to know that if no one has told you lately, you are LOVED and prayed for by Mindy and I (even you Hosford)! I can't begin to explain how much you as a staff mean to me! Frequently I'm told how great our school is, and it makes me uncomfortable because they think it's me that makes it that way. It's NOT, it is the hard work, long days without bathroom breaks, late nights grading work and worrying about students, extra money spent, meals missed, days your sick and still come in because you want to be with your kids, phone calls answered with a cheery voice, wounds healed with a caring touch, sidewalks cleared on the weekends, home visits to check on a kid. ALL of this that YOU ALL do makes CNP the place it is! I want you all to know how much I appreciate what you do for our kids, and how much I appreciate each and every one of you!

You've Seen It Before

I know you've all probably seen this before, but it's a great reminder! When things get rough and our last nerve it touched what is your choice? It's my hope that when students remember our building they remember it like this!

Upcoming Morning Meetings

I'm not even going to lie, who knows when we'll be at school so unless something urgent comes up this week, please take the time to collaborate with your grade levels.
