District to Recommend Update to Mask Guidance

NSC is committed to the safety of students and staff. As we have worked to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff, we have relied on the guidance from public health authorities to drive our decisions.

Based on this guidance, district leadership will submit a recommendation to update the Safe Return to School Plan to the Joint Executive Governing Board at its April 12 meeting. The update will include the district moving to masks recommended for students and staff. If approved by the board, the updated policy will begin Monday, April 18.

Additional information on the mask policy update will be emailed to families later this week.

Petty, Hodge Elected to Joint Executive Governing Board

Voters elected Dr. Christopher Petty (at right) and Harlan Hodge (pictured below) to the Normandy Schools Collaborative’s Joint Executive Governing Board on Tuesday, the first time the community has elected school board members in eight years.

In December, the Missouri State Board of Education voted to begin Normandy Schools Collaborative’s transition from an appointed school board to an elected one. In 2014, the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) dissolved the Normandy School District and formed the Normandy Schools Collaborative. Since then, the Normandy Joint Executive Governing Board (JEGB) has consisted of members appointed by the state Board of Education. Tuesday’s election was the first step in transitioning the district back to local governance.

Dr. Petty and Hodge will replace current members Mike Jones and Sara Foster. The newly elected members will join the JEGB at the April 12 board meeting.
