Te Whare Akoranga o Maungawhau, March 24, 2022
From The Principal
Kia ora koutou,
You'll be aware of the recently-announced changes to the current Alert Level, which allow for further relaxation of restrictions.
As far as the removal of the education vaccine mandate goes, this won't have an immediate impact. It will take some time for further advice on this to be made available for Boards to consider before making any Policy decisions moving forward.
With the changes to gathering limits coming into effect, however, this is perfectly timed for our planned Rippa Tournament for Y4-6, scheduled for next week, and so we're delighted to warmly invite parents to attend if they are able to.
As this takes place outdoors, there are no mandates, restrictions or special requirements other than sticking to designated spectator areas (although we continue to encourage facemasks as a courtesy to others, particularly around the children). Other than that, if you attend, please be generally mindful of the personal space of those around you, and do not enter the classrooms.
Term 1 Parent Conferences
You should also have received an email this week regarding Term 1 Parent Conference bookings, which are now open.
Please note also that both of these days (6th & 7th April) involve a 1pm finish (so children will need to be enrolled in after-school care or picked up early on both days). Children are also welcome to attend the conferences with you.
As restrictions gradually ease and case averages (hopefully) continue to trend downwards, we are committed to taking a cautious but pragmatic, staged approach to re-connecting and re-engaging at all levels of school life.
This will hopefully allow us to give you greater insight into what an amazing start to the year we have seen for our learners, and how proud of them we are here at school.
Finally, a reminder that no school uniform is required tomorrow (Friday, 25th) , with the children able to wear their own clothes for a Gold Coin donation - all proceeds will go to World Vision's appeal for families and children needing urgent help in Ukraine.

Team 3 is learning about volcanoes!
Earlier this week, Team 3 were very fortunate to find a window between the thunderstorms in which to go out and explore Maungawhau!
The children scaled the maunga with ease, and it was a fantastic opportunity to observe the natural and archeological features of this volcano. Holding tightly onto their hats at the very top, the children put their orienteering skills to use and identified the surrounding volcanoes with help from our parent volunteers.
Back in the classroom, the children's enthusiasm for volcanoes continues to grow as we have been testing out our theories about the geographical and scientific processes involved in volcanic eruptions. Our tamariki have been working very hard to build their own volcanoes in class. It almost seems a shame to stage an 'eruption' of these volcanoes later in the term, but it's definitely the part the children are most excited about!
