Nixon Parents and Guardians,
It has been a terrific start to the beginning of the second semester! I have had the opportunity to visit classrooms on many occasions; scholars are demonstrating growth mindsets and positive attitudes towards learning! The classrooms are all abuzz with rich scholar dialogue and deep critical thinking skills as they face rigorous academic standards.
Moreover, teachers are continuing to work collaboratively in order to build productive learning environments that are scholar centered and standards based; incorporating skills that allow scholars to utilize critical thinking skills to move beyond mere repetition. Our work is vital to supporting scholars in developing habits of mind that allows them to persist after reaching adversity.
Lastly, we are working with scholars to grow social-emotional skills and develop empathy. This value will support scholars in understanding their peers during times of misfortune. We will continue building upon values for the remainder of the school year that will support guiding scholars in decision making and habits of mind.
Let's continue growing academically and socially!

REWARDING POSITIVE BEHAVIOR!
Positive behavioral interventions and supports is a framework for supporting whole school practices (school-wide) to promote a safe school setting by supporting social, learning, behavioral, and emotional needs of all scholars both with and without individualized education programs.
January 26th we will honor our scholars with a PBIS popsicle party!

FAMILY INPUT Survey!
Family Input surveys are very important to us at Nixon Elementary. We aim to continue building data as it relates to academic programs, parent-teacher conferences, regular reports about scholar progress, parent volunteer activities, input on school decision making, and/or collaboration between families around meeting the individual learning needs of our scholars. We intend to foster communication with parents about scholar performance and collaboratively support scholar learning. I have included a link for family income verification to support documentation as it relates to household size and family income. Please complete the link Nixon's Summer Reading Survey to better support future planning. Thank you for completing the family input survey.
Please do not hesitate to contact me, as I am here to support you.
