NES Parent Advisory Council (PAC) Update
PAC works to support the school through fundraising and opportunities for students. PAC is responsible for our hot lunch program, and also purchases equipment such as the gym climbing wall, the sensory walk and outdoor equipment.
We want to thank you for your support with our 2021/2022 fundraisers! This year we did a Mom's Pantry fundraiser as well as two Lacoste fundraisers. Together these fundraisers raised over $7000.00.
We are looking for new members! Have you ever wondered what PAC does? Join us at our next PAC meeting to find out. Our PAC meetings are chaired by the PAC president, and joined by the executive team, teacher representative and principal. In our meetings we discuss current school matters, upcoming events and fundraising opportunities. Parent representation has been dwindling in the last two years, and we need your help! Parents do not need to be available during the day to participate. If you have any questions, please contact us at nesparentcounsil@gmail.com.

NES Jump Rope for Heart Update
Thank you to all who have registered and donated to the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser! It means a lot as a community, and to all the kids we’re helping. So far we have raised $707 out of our $800 goal! You can still register and donate to the Heart & Stroke foundation through this link.
Each gym class students have been jumping rope and doing different skipping challenges for a chance to win a prize provided by the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Here’s what Jump Rope for Heart has taught NES students about Heart & Stroke:
- They share money with researchers who find new ways to save lives and make people better.
- They support families who have been affected by heart disease and stroke.
- They encourage kids to be active and practice healthy habits early, so they lead longer, healthier lives.
Keep up the Great Work NES!!

Lost and Found Tour
**Friendly Reminder to label your child's clothing as we check for labels and do our best to return those to their owns before cleaning out the Lost and Found
Crosswalk Safety /Parking
A friendly reminder to look out for the safety of our students and staff at the Pedestrian Corridor on Main Street. Below are the Pedestrian Corridor Driver responsibilities as written in the MPI Driver's Handbook
Pedestrian Corridors
These feature large, illuminated overhead signs, with alternating flashing amber lights on top. Large rectangular bars are painted on the crossing.
As a driver
• It’s illegal to pass traffic ahead of you that is slowing down or has stopped for pedestrians.
• Make sure the pedestrians have safely crossed the street or have safely reached the median of a divided roadway before proceeding.
• No parking or stopping is allowed within 15 metres of a pedestrian corridor
We have been placing pylons out during crosswalk times to indicate the 15 m spacing that should be left between cars and the Pedestrian Corridor. If you are turning left onto Main Street from 4th Ave South, you will need to yield to the cars stopped at the crosswalk and not turn in front.
Parking
Parking in the area by the crosswalk (with painted curbs and signage) is not permitted.
Thank you for helping us get students safely to and from school!
PARENT PORTAL/STUDENT INFORMATION
The HSD Parent Portal is a communication tool designed to enhance and increase parent/guardian involvement in the education of their children by providing secure online access to their child's student information. With a single username and password, you can access data for each of your children attending an HSD school. The Access IDs along with setup instructions have been sent via email to all eligible parents/guardians of new students. If you are new to NES and did not receive the specified email, please contact the school office at 204-388-4861.
Please take a few minutes to review the student information and contact information for your child. It is important that the school has current address and contact information for your child in case it is necessary to reach someone during the school day. Changes can be made through the parent portal.
