Some Parent Reminders:
- As Valentine’s Day approaches, please keep in mind that MES will not accept deliveries of balloons to students at school due to safety concerns as stated in the Student Handbook.
- Please continue to monitor your child’s lunch account by visiting the school webpage and clicking on the “EZ Pay” logo in the upper right corner to enter the meal payment program where you can find your child’s account balance.
- Winter is not over yet! To make sure you get the calls about delays or cancellations, always let the school know if your phone number changes.
- If there is a threat of severe weather, please do not call the school. As soon as the Superintendent makes a decision regarding school closing, you will be notified via the automated calling system. School staff will not have that information until the announcement is made. We appreciate your patience.
- If your child is late to school in the morning, please come into the office and sign them in. Our computerized sign-in system is self-service and takes only moments to operate.
- Please label all clothing, backpacks, lunchboxes, swim bags, etc. whenever possible so they can be promptly returned to the owner. Our Lost & Found is full!
- With the cold and flu season upon us, we’d like to ask your help in keeping your child at home if he has a fever of 100° or higher until he is fever free, without medication, for 24 hours. Also, your child should stay home if she has vomited in the past 24 hours. Thank you for your help in keeping our school healthy!
- If your child is absent, please be sure to notify the school before 9:00 a.m. by either emailing the teacher or leaving a message on the school’s attendance call-in line (812-654-2922, option #4). You should inform one or the other; you do not have to notify both.
- If you have an afternoon bus change, your best bet is always to send a note to school with your child. If it's a last minute change and you must call the school, please do so as soon as possible (before 2:30 p.m.) so the message can be relayed to your child before he/she boards the bus. Finally, please keep in mind that emailing the teacher about a change or sending a message on Class Dojo is not a good idea unless you are doing it at least a day before. Teachers are busy conducting the class and away from their desks most of the day; sometimes the teacher may be absent. Either situation could result in your child not getting the message.
- And finally, keep an eye on attendance. Remember to call school if your child is going to be absent. It's easy to leave a message on our automated attendance line or use email or Class Dojo to notify your child's teacher directly and make arrangements to get homework. After six parent-excused absences, a doctor/dentist note is needed for the absence to be excused; many are near that now. If you are unsure if your child is well enough to be at school, you are welcome to have the school nurse check them. If she advises against them attending school, it is an excused absence.
