Science News
March finds us concluding our physical science rotation in the lab and transitioning into Earth science. Fifth grade will be learning about Earth systems and how the biosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere and atmosphere interact. Fourth grade Students will finish their unit on electricity and make electromagnets. Third grade will be working with physical and chemical changes as they complete their unit on matter. Second grade will begin a unit on air and weather. First grade will be investigating magnets. Kindergarten will finish up their wood unit and begin learning about weather. Many thanks to the parents that are helping with wood-working day on March 6th!
School-wide Science Event
Due to our ice day in February, the Buddy Catapult event has been moved to Thursday, March 7th. Upper grades will partner with their primary classroom “buddies” to test different projectiles with the catapults they have built. The schedule is below if you would like to join us! Students do not need any materials from home for this project.
Art Studio News
Kindergarten and First Graders enjoyed connecting art to music and literature by creating artwork to go along with their music program The Day the Crayons Quit. Students listened to the story by Drew Daywalt and then picked a color from the story to make a picture. They also made a mural to resemble the one illustrated in the book. Great Job! Second and Third Graders are finishing their contest drawings. Second Grade are participating in the Tot Trot Contest and Third Grade are participating in a Dental Contest. Good Luck! Fourth and Fifth Graders have just completed their Yearbook design. One design will be chosen for this year’s cover!

Music Notes
March sees both an ending and beginning amongst the music students. Kindergarten and First grade have just performed their Spring Music Program and I am extremely very proud of them. I hope you enjoyed their performance too!
Grades 2 and 3 are polishing up their program on Character and Kindness that will take place in April. We’ve been playing instruments and are moving into Skits for our show. They are a lot of fun to work with. Grade 3 is also starting a Recorder Club during Wednesday lunchtime recess. 23 have signed up! They will be able to purchase their recorder for $3, though it is not required.
Grades 4 and 5 are delving deeply playing Orff instruments and playing the Recorder. I’ve seen many students get excited about mastering as many songs as possible. Watching them work through hard things and succeed continues to be very rewarding to see. The new PTA ukuleles are arriving soon and several students are excited to return to playing the ukes.
Talent Show auditions are winding up and the selected acts will start working with me soon. It will be held the week after Spring Break on Friday. More information will come to you in a Thursday note.
Have a Musical March!
