News & Updates
Hello CELC Families,
I hope you all had a fun weekend. It was nice to get a little bit of rain! We are looking forward to our annual Creekside Halloween Costume Parade. Please join us on October 31st at 9:15 a.m. Students will parade around the upper campus.
Our DLK classes enjoyed a day at Sherman Heights. Students toured the community altars, participated in a sugar skull art project, and ate traditional pan de muertos and drank Mexican hot chocolate.
Help your student meet this goal at home by studying the words with them. There will also be an opportunity to earn a brag tag for 10 sight words in December. See the words below to help practice them at home.
Each week, our Cubs study a new color word. This week is black. Lessons and activities around the color black will happen throughout the week. This Thursday, students are encouraged to wear black to school.
Here is a list of the latest updates and news to keep you informed:
- CELC students that missed 0-1 day through the end of September will be receiving a certificate of recognition and a brag tag this week. Congratulations! We will be doing it again for October/November attendance.
- Parent conferences are coming soon. Mark your calendars for the week of November 14th. Students will be excused at 12:15 pm all week in order for teachers to meet with parents.
- AUSD schools participated in the Great Shake Out Earthquake drill with over 19 million people on 10/20/22. The staff and students did a fantastic job. We also had a lock down drill on 10/18/22 that went very well. Thank you to the Sheriff's Department for observing the drill to give us feedback.
- Please send your student to school each day with a backpack, refillable water bottle, a healthy snack, and a lunch (unless they are getting a cafeteria lunch).
Please report any absences to your child's teacher and the office. We still are required to follow COVID protocols for illnesses. Please let the office know the reason your child is out and what symptoms they have.
We LOVE volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please pick up the required paperwork in the office. All volunteers must be free of COVID-19 The office needs a copy of your CDL, and TB results to process the application.
Before and after school care is available. Please contact our ESS Coordinator, Natalija Worrell, if you have any questions at nworrell@alpineschools.net
For transportation questions and concerns, please visit AUSD's website at https://www.alpineschools.net/page/transportation or call the GUHSD Transportation Department.
Every Monday is college spirit day and every Friday is school spirit day! Wear a college shirt on Mondays and a Cub shirt (or CELC colors) on Friday.

Mark October 27th on your calendars. It is almost time for our annual Halloween Carnival. MVLA 5th graders will have the opportunity to attend a District-wide field trip to Viejas for a Fire and Law Enforcement Presentation. Students will return to school before the carnival begins. Please send your 5th grader with a snack to take on the trip. The fire department will provide bottled water.
Students may enter through either the CELC or SHES campus. Pick up/dismissal is at SHES.
School begins at 9:00 a.m. Dismissal is at 1:30 p.m. Please do not park in the bus or fire lane while picking up or dropping off your students.
Please make sure that you send your students to school with their Chromebooks fully charged daily. If your student is having technical difficulties with their Chromebooks, you can get support from our District Tech Department. Email helpdesk@alpineschools.net.

AUSD 2022-23 LCAP GOALS
The Governor's budget for education mandated that every school district in California needs to update its Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a component of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). The LCAP is intended to be a three-year plan to improve student achievement by setting annual goals for the district in eight priority areas. Each of the priorities has established data requirements to track district progress improving student achievement. The LCAP requires Districts to gather input from students, teachers, parents, and community members to determine the goals, actions, and budget priorities for the District. Our District staff worked together with all of our stakeholder groups to gather input and craft the draft of our Local Control Accountability Plan. Here are AUSD's 2022-23 LCAP Goals:
Goal #1: Effective Instruction and Curriculum - Provide equitable access to high-quality classroom curriculum and instruction in an inclusive environment that promotes student success.
Goal #2: Safe and Respectful Environments - Ensure all school sites are safe and have healthy and welcoming climates for staff, students, and their families so that all students feel connected and are motivated to attend and ready to learn.
Goal #3: Equitable and Culturally Responsible Systems - Ensure systems and processes eliminate barriers to student success and are equitable and culturally responsive to the needs of our students and their families.
