Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) Spring 2021 Testing Schedule
At Corner Middle School we will begin the administration of the ACAP Alternate Test for exceptional education students in a self-contained classroom setting. This test series will be given over a two-week period at our school before we begin the larger ACAP Summative Test for the larger bulk of students in the school.
Jefcoed district leaders met with principals and counselors over the past two weeks to present a plan for the testing of students in a traditional setting as well as those students who are currently in a remote setting. All students enrolled in a public school in the state of Alabama MUST PARTICIPATE in state testing. It is the district's plan to utilize five school days if needed (three in March and two in April) to bring students who are currently in a remote learning environment back on to campus to test. Traditional students will stay at home on those three days and participate in asynchronous e-Learning Days.
Working with Mr. Ackerman and Mrs. Parker, the principal and counselor at Bagley Elementary, we have determined that we should only need three of those five days as the largest group of our currently enrolled students are in a traditional setting. In reviewing the suggested days, we felt families might be able to better utilize the days right before spring break than the days in the middle of the second week of April.
In creating our testing calendar, CMS has to work around events in which our students participate during the school day in March and April. In an effort to minimize a disruption to learning for all grade levels and based upon the staff available to administer and proctor the assessment, we will test one grade level per week. Each grade has a different set of standards-based tests in multiple content areas with different time requirements. You can find those requirements in the pictures below.
7:25 - 7:55 Breakfast Served
7:55 - 8:30 Settle in and Prepare for Assessment
8:30 - 11:30 Begin ACAP Summative Assessment Sub-Tests
11:30 - 12:00 Lunch
12:00 - 3:00 Academic Opportunity Sessions for Remote Learners with Grade Level Staff
Traditional students will return after spring break and begin the ACAP Summative. For your planning purposes
- 6th Grade will test the week of March 29th. Grades 5, 7, and 8 will run their regular schedules.
- 8th Grade will test the week of April 5th. Grades 5, 6, and 7 will run their regular schedules.
- 5th Grade will test the week of April 12th. Grades 6, 7, and 8 will run their regular schedules.
- 7th Grade will test the week of April 19th. Grades 5, 6, and 8 will run their regular schedules.
- Make-up testing (which we hope is not needed) is the week of April 26th. All students not participating in make-up testing will run their regular schedules.
Please help us by having your students at school during the testing period. If you are able, please schedule appointments either in a week your student is not testing or later in the afternoon of the testing week.
Finally, as the third quarter ends on March 19, 2021, we will need to know if you are planning on your student changing his or her learning environment from remote to traditional (or vice versa) earlier due to state testing. NEXT SUNDAY, we will send out the link to the Change in Learning Environment Survey for the fourth quarter. Please complete it before the end of the day on Friday, March 5th.
We understand that the district's plan may cause some inconvenience for you. That is why Bagley and Corner Middle have worked together to coordinate plans to utilize the days leading into Spring Break. We hope that this gives your family alternatives for childcare and/or travel. We also hope that reducing the district's five remote days to three also helps.
Please feel free to email me or call the school with questions as we enter the state spring testing season and begin to wind down this very unpredictable school year brought on by COVID-19. Thank you for your support of your student(s) and all of the schools in our feeder pattern!
Corner Middle 5th & 6th Grade Science Olympiad in First Live Competition of the Year
Because of COVID-19 restrictions this year, the school district split the event into zones to allow for social distancing and avoid capacity conflicts. Schools submitted results to district leaders who will send out results of the county competition later this week.
This is the first live sanctioned event that has been available for our academic teams as Future Problem Solvers Teams, the two Math Teams, the two Robotics Teams, the Debate Team, and the 7th & 8th Grade Science Olympiad Team have all participated in virtual competitions due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Celebrating Black History Month: The Leadership and Grace of The Girl Who Believed She Can Accomplish Anything
As we continue our celebration of Black History Month, take a moment to look at Alabama native, Condoleezza Rice. Born in 1954, "Condi" was the daughter of two teachers in segregated Birmingham schools. They instilled in her the knowledge that she could accomplish anything she worked for. She entered college in Denver, Colorado at the age of 15. Upon graduation, this talented scholar, musician, athlete, and leader worked her way through multiple leadership positions eventually becoming the first woman and first African American to serve as provost of Stanford University. In 2001, Rice was appointed national security adviser by President George W. Bush, becoming the first black woman (and second woman) to hold the post, and went on to become the first black woman to serve as U.S. Secretary of State. Today, we honor and celebrate the achievement of black men and women in American history.
