Weekly Update March 11, 2022
COVID-19 Reporting Update
From the Ohio Department of Health
The Ohio Department of Health is easing requirements for case reporting by K-12 schools effective immediately.
Schools are no longer required to:
- Maintain a COVID-19 reporting system for parents to report positive COVID-19 cases.
- Have a designated COVID-19 coordinator for the district.
- Notify parents of positive COVID-19 cases among staff, students, or coaches.
- Report positive cases of COVID-19 to their local health department unless the school tests a student for COVID-19 and the result is positive.
The health and safety of our staff and students is our top priority. While we will implement these updates, we will also remain diligent in continuing to monitor our positive case data and possible school spread.

Fourth Graders Making a Difference
Fourth grade students at Lincoln Elementary school recently participated in a service project with a competitive twist – a Coin Wars competition to raise money for books to donate to underprivileged schools in central Ohio.
The project’s inspiration came from the “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr. Students recognized Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Black History Month by exploring how they can do good in the world, just like Dr. King. All five of the fourth-grade classes at Lincoln Elementary participated.

GLHS Bioscience Students Win Scholarships at 10th Annual Capstone Presentations
On February 25, 2022, students from Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical School’s Bioscience satellite program presented their senior capstone projects to a group of industry leaders. The Bioscience program is taught by Kelly Lewis and housed at Clark Hall.
Twenty-three students participated in the annual capstone project event. Thirteen individuals ranging from doctors, CEOs, and special project managers from the biology, science, and medical fields participated as judges in the competition. The top three projects were selected and those students were rewarded for their work with scholarship money, donated by the Gahanna Rotary. BioOhio donated an additional $1,000 to supplement those scholarships, allowing for $2,750 in scholarship funds to be distributed to the winners.
Lincoln High School Orchestra Performance
Songs of Hope and Resilience
The GLHS Chamber Orchestra is joining forces with the Gahanna Community Chorus to present Songs of Hope & Resilience.
"While this performance follows the emotional arch of the past two years, it is a celebration of the power that music has to heal us and bring our community back together," said Kevin Dengle, GLHS orchestra director. "We had our first combined performance on Monday evening. It was incredible! What is even more incredible is our musicians span 8 decades! Our youngest performer is 16 years old and the oldest is in his mid-80s."
