Benton Weekly Update
Week 34: May 3-7, 2021
Accolades, Achievements, and Recognition
In the area of Achievements, Benton has been recognized as a California Exemplary Arts Education Program school. This award is part of the California Distinguished Schools Program; to qualify, schools must meet the criteria for a Distinguished School as well as meeting criteria for an exemplary arts education program. After all, our mission is to inspire and empower all students to achieve academic excellence in a creative visual and performing arts environment.
It is Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week. Our wonderful PTSA has developed a Spirit Week for students to recognize their favorite teachers and staff by wearing their staff member's favorite colors, sports team gear, or college colors this week. See below for more details, and don't forget to give a special shout-out to your favorite teacher or staff member!
Finally, it's our students, our programs, and our wonderful staff, that make Benton great, and a Destination for the Arts!
Other News & Important Info
The year, NLMUSD will NOT be administering the SBAC tests. The CA Department of Education has allowed our district to utilize the iReady tests in lieu of SBAC. On Wednesdays during the month of May, teachers will be assigning the Math and Reading iReady Diagnostics during asynchronous time. This test will measure students' growth for the year, identify learning needs, and help the high schools place 8th graders for next year. Please ensure that your child is doing their best work on this final iReady Diagnostic. Tips for parents to support your child can be found here.
Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month Performing Artist: Run River North
“Our Asian-ness is something that we can’t not be, but as a band, that shouldn’t be what we’re about,” says lead singer Alex Hwang in an interview with NPR. “We should have good music for you to listen to.”
