Cougar Weekly Update
August 23, 2019
Principal's Message
Making sure everyone gets home safely is our top priority. Please make sure that your child's teacher knows of any special arrangements for after school. It is always best to have students come to school the first day of school the way they will regularly come. All staff members will be helping to ensure that students find their classrooms.
Kindergarten families should have received information in the mail this week about Kindergarten Orientation and Cookie Day! Look for special information about our first day program for our kindergarten students.
Nursing has made great effort to inform all parents if students are missing physicals or shot records. Please know that students will be excluded from school if they are missing physicals or shot records.
The entire Cougar staff is excited to see students on the first day of school!

Transportation News
MPCS is excited to start the 2019-2020 school year!!
As we approach the first day of school on Monday, please take a moment to review the following reminders:
Expect bus delays.
New school-year routines take time to establish, and all staff works together to patiently establish those routines and ensure students are comfortable. Thank you for your patience during the first week of school.
School bus doubles will also be in effect this year. At the elementary level, two groups of students will be on a delayed departure schedule. At the secondary level, four groups of students will be on a delayed departure schedule. For more details, visit the transportation area of the MPCS website.
Anticipate crossing guard changes.
Crossing guards will no longer be on duty at Brandon and South Whitt or at Stephanie and Cougar Court, but previous bus routes have been reinstated. For elementary students in Bloom’s Crossing, check here to confirm your bus route. All drivers should remain alert for students walking in the area.
Know school bus regulations.
Approximately 35 buses transport 3,000+ MPCS student daily and some traffic laws surrounding school buses are enforced by a stop arm.
The CrossingGuard® school bus stop arm safety solution mounts cameras and sensors on the side of the school bus. When the stop arm is deployed, the sensors automatically detect a vehicle illegally passing the stop arm in either direction. The system then captures video of the violation including the vehicle’s license plate. The video is then reviewed by the Manassas Park Police Department for approval prior to a citation being issued. In Virginia, a stop-arm violation results in a $250 civil penalty.
Thank you to our entire MP community to ensuring our students get off to a great start to the school year!

Student Registration Verification
Please make sure that you have verified the information in the Parent Portal. For those who have not created an account the registration information on creating an account is being sent via US Mail.
Online Returning Student Data Verification Is Now Open
Parents of returning students must access the Infosnap online forms through the PowerSchool Parent Portal at https://ps.mpark.net/public. The online forms contain demographic and emergency information you entered last year. You must verify the information is accurate or update any information that has changed. Parents will also electronically sign annual agreement forms for school district policies.
At least one parent is required to create a PowerSchool Parent account. If you have multiple children in Manassas Park City Schools, you must verify information for each student, however only one parent account is necessary.
- If you have created a PowerSchool Parent Portal account in a previous school year, please use that account to log in. Please do not create a new account.
- If you have not created a PowerSchool parent account, directions can be found at http://www.mpark.net/parents/directions-for-parent-portal.
If you have questions about your account, please contact your child’s school for assistance.
The completion of this process is required for all returning students. The online forms are now open. Please complete by August 16, 2019.
