Description of Activity
Construction of a drawer and explanation of building a cabinet. Going through the basic steps of squaring stock and how to use various types of saws and tools as well as lamination processes
Rationale
I have chosen this activity because is requires precise measurements and factoring in various measurements. It also requires the use of different joining techniques that are common in cabinetmaking and the use of common tools.
Details of Activity
- Explanation of the project and process
- Demonstration of sliding table saw and dado saw
- Showing how to glue miters in order to trim veneer
- setting up and running chamfers on the trim
- Explanation of material choice.
- Assembly of drawer box and why I used the joining techniques that I did
- Fastening the drawer face to the drawer end explaining how to center it
- Going over basic lamination techniques as well as sandpaper choice and progression
- Explaining the drawing and how i factored in all of my measurements
Required Materials
- 3/4 inch plywood
- 3/4 inch veneer MDF
- 3/4 inch MDF
- brad nailer and brads
- portable router set up with chamfer bit
- impact driver and drill
- #8 Robertson screws
- white glue and miter tape
