Featuring Ms. Samia Namir
Who we are...
We hope you enjoy this edition!
1. Name and position in AJAC?
Hello everyone. My name is Samia Nimer, and I teach Islamic & Arabic B in Secondary.
2. Where are you from?
I come from the beautiful and historical country of Jordan.
3. Family?
I have four kids: two boys and two girls.
4. Childhood nickname?
My family used to call me Simsima.
5. Favourite food?
I am trying to eat healthy food as much as I can, but it’s challenging sometimes! My favourite has to be Arabic food.
6. Hobbies?
I love walking and playing badminton.
7. Favourite place in the UAE?
I have a favourite place in each Emirate, especially in Ajman where I am working now. I also love Sharjah which is where I have been living for 18 years and of course Dubai where I used to work before.
8. Most memorable experience as a teacher so far?
It has to be when I moved from teaching the American curriculum to the IB curriculum. In 2008 I worked in Dubai in the DIP area, and I started to teach different curriculums, Arabic & Islamic subjects for non-Arabic speaking students. It’s interesting seeing all the various methods of teaching in each curriculum and school.
9. Funniest moment in your teaching career?
Honestly, I have a lot, as every day I have funny moments with students and with staff.
10. The most challenging moment in your teaching career?
It was very challenging for me when I was working four different roles at the same time. I was studying for my Higher Diploma in University and was a full-time teacher, and at the same time, I was Head of Department for the whole school and a mother. But I learned from that experience that with proper prioritisation, delegation and time management, we can achieve so much more than what we think we are capable of!
11. Childhood hero?
Was and still, Prophet Mohammad PBUH and my dad.
12. If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be?
I would be a Lawyer or TV presenter.
