Mrs. Ewald’s and Mrs. Fowler’s Reading and Language Arts
This week ELA classes will read the story “Dark They Were and Golden Eyed.” They will then listen to the radio play of the same story and compare and contrast the two selections. Later in the week, the students will read “Danger, this Mission from Mars will Bore you to Death.” We will practice figurative language as well.
Mrs. Boyer's Reading Advancement Program
This week, students read about the Grand Canyon. The reading skills we focused on were writing an extended response to a prompt and identifying the main details of a piece of reading. Next week, we are going to study the continent of Africa and read about endangered animals on that continent. We will focus on correctly identifying antonyms and synonyms through various activities. We will also continue to work on main ideas. Our Lexile levels will change on Monday, so please ask your student about their growth!
MATH - Mr. Kolb
Accelerated 7 students did a great job completing their final MAP tests of the school year this past Thursday as well. We will be finishing up Topic 10 with Surface Area early next week before taking our CSA (test) next Tuesday, 5/3.
SOCIAL STUDIES - Mrs. Hess
This week we started our final chapter of the year, the Civil War. This chapter outlines the advantages and disadvantages of the Union Army and Confederate Army and their strategies. We will also learn about many important battles. We will continue this chapter next week, leading to our final CSA the week of May 9.
SCIENCE - Mrs. Arndt
Ask your student about our chick development - lots of changes this week! I will be conducting a class demonstration next week to help students understand how air and even water can be transported across eggshells and relate it to how cell membranes function. In our regular curriculum, we will be finishing chapter 3 which focuses on the concept of conservation of matter in an ecosystem. Our unit test will be the week of May 9th.
