SHARK SHOUT OUTS
- Shout out to the girls tennis team. They recently sent a condolence card to Rising Tide girls tennis team coach - one of their players (Claire Zisserson) was killed in that awful drunk driving crash in Pembroke (another remains critically injured). The team sent a card in honor of Claire. She played against us at 3rd singles last season. Captain Lindsay Macdonald and the team should be recognized for their thoughtfulness. Our prayers go out to the Rising Tide team and their affected families. -Coach Bill Burke
- A huge Shark Shout Out to Jenne Beebe and Annabelle Sims on their very impressive research project independent study presentations. Jenna and Annabelle invited school counselors and administrators to their very comprehensive and informative presentations. They had strong command of the subject matter, presented as true professionals and were passionate about their work. Thank you Ms. Flint for taking the time to work with the students on this independent study! -Principal Burkhead
- I wanted to give a Huge shark shout out to my staff (Noel Martin, Candace Wolcott, and Gavin Williams) and students in the SAND program. They have all worked very hard during the last two weeks to prepare for midterms. My students have all excelled in their midterms. Good job everyone. I am very proud of each and every one of you. -Mrs. Coyner
MLK Program celebrated
MRHS celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King on Monday, Jan 20 in many ways! Several MRHS poets shared poems they wrote about King's work and dream with the MLK Committee of the Nauset Interfaith Council. These poems were on display at the annual King breakfast in Orleans. Many thanks to MRHS family member, Angelina Chilaka for making sure the poems looked great. In addition to the display, three of our student poets presented their work to the large audience and took part in the two hour event. In the photos you will find Brienna Notaro, Olivia Appleton, and Libby Anderson--our student presenters. Emma Santoni, representing our Human Rights work, also attended, as well as student supporter Riley Jones and parent supporter, Monika Appleton. In the photos, you will also find two MRHS teachers who encouraged students to write King-inspired poetry: Lisa Forte-Doyle and Jazmyn Jones. Thanks also go to Rich Houston, who could not attend, for encouraging his students to celebrate King's life.
The program hosted the Honorable Donald L. Cabell - a magistrate Judge for the U.S.District Court for the District of MA - as the guest speaker. He spoke on the topic of US incarceration rates and its impact on all of us.
Three of our MRHS students read their very moving poems to a group of over 180 people.
1. Libby Anderson
2. Olivia Appleton
3. Briena Notaro
Also in attendance from MRHS were Emma Santoni representing the HRA and Riley Jones.
The following students also sent in poems but did not attend the event:
Cara Jolibois - Brittany Gould - Jake Vagenas- Ava Packett- Suzie Sheeran - Jeff Hauck - Rabecca Fontaine- Ana Aquino - Enelisha Minaya - Ederlyn Minaya
Thank you to all of these students and their teachers for addressing Human Rights and Social Justice Issues.

Semester 2
A fresh start for students! The guidance department wants to encourage all students to use Jawsome to their advantage - please use this time to meet with teachers and get extra support with academics. Make a goal for Term 3 to have perfect attendance - daily attendance in the classroom is very important for academic gains and success.
February and April Vacations
One of the best ways to research colleges is to visit the campus and take a tour. School vacations are an ideal time to schedule a tour so you can see what student life looks like. If you are traveling or planning a staycation, see if you can check out a local college. Being on a campus is a great experience and will help students as they start to plan life after high school.
