Summer Edition 2021

Welcome Back!

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! While summer is quickly coming to an end, we hope you have had the opportunity to relax and spend quality time with your student. Each year, the start of a new school year always brings much excitement, and this year is no different. We are looking forward to welcoming residential students back to the OSSB campus dormitories!

Please continue reading for information about move-in day and exciting Residential Program events!

Meet Mrs. Taylor!

This year we are pleased to announce that Taylor Crokie will be joining the Residential Administrative Team. Taylor will serve our department as the 2nd shift or evening Youth Leader Supervisor.

Mrs. Taylor may already be recognized by many students and parents as she has been a Youth Leader with OSSB for 4 years now.

Some of Taylor's hobbies include fishing, kayaking, taking walks with her dogs and spending time with her family.

Taylor looks forward to beginning the new school year and reconnecting with students and staff in the Residential Program.

Welcome, Mrs. Taylor!

Important Reminders!

Sunday Return Reminder

All Residential students may return to campus beginning at 5 pm weekly.

Monday, August 23 will be the exception. Residential students may return at 4 pm on Monday, August 23.

Registration Reminder

Please remember to check your mailbox for information from OSSB regarding Registration this year. OSSB is using Final Forms to complete all registration materials this year, online. Didn't get the mailing? Need assistance with online registration? Please contact the OSSB front desk, 614-752-1359 if you have any questions about registration

Move In Ready!

Residential students may return as early as 4 pm on Monday, August 23.

All students must first report to Student Health Services upon arrival. The nursing team will greet students for check in at the front lobby of the academic building.

Upon leaving check in with the Student Health Services (SHS) team, students may travel to their assigned dorms where they will be greeted by their Youth Leaders. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, for both student and staff safety, parents and transportation drivers may not enter the dormitories at this time.

Personal items within student luggage must be heat treated upon entering the dorm. Staff will help students with heat treating and setting up and organizing their assigned bedroom. We strongly recommend packing electronics and toiletries in a separate bag so it can easily be removed from your child's luggage; these items will not be heat treated.

Dinner will be provided in the dorm at 5 pm. We encourage everyone to arrive between 4 pm and 8 pm. If circumstances prevent you from doing this, please communicate with your dorm Youth Leaders or the Residential Youth Leader Supervisor.

Packing Preparations

While we continue to promote that the residential program is a supportive and nurturing living environment that is a 'home away from home', it is important to note that we will ust continue to limit the amount of items that each student brings from home this year.

We have provided a packing list (see the attachment below) of essential items. We are asking that students limit the amount of personal items that they bring this year due to the intense cleaning and disinfecting that will be occurring on a daily basis. This includes games, toys and room decorations.

August 20: Family Check-In

On Friday, 20, please expect a phone call from the Youth Leaders in your child's assigned dorm. This will give you an opportunity to meet the staff working in the dorm with your child this school year and ask any questions about our return in advance. If available, we welcome students to also join the conversation! We look forward to connecting with you soon!
