Conference Week Bell Schedule
March 14-18
Spring Conferences
Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences are being scheduled and your child's teacher will be contacting you, if a conference is necessary.
Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences differ from those offered in the Fall in that they are not scheduled for every student in the class. Your child's teacher will schedule a conference if he/she has concerns that may be affecting student progress.
Learning is typically the main focus of parent-teacher conferences, but it would not be unusual for your child's teacher to comment on behavioral and social development, peer relationships, motivation, and work habits.
Spring Conferences are scheduled for March 14-18. With the COVID surge behind us, we will be offering in-person conferences, but as the parent, you will have the option to select a virtual or phone conference.
Updated Mask Mandate
Dear LVJUSD Families,
As anticipated, the Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD) issued a press release this afternoon stating that Alameda County will align with the State’s guidance to remove the mask requirement for students in schools and child care facilities after March 11, 2022. Masks will remain strongly recommended, but not required.
In keeping with our District’s practice to uphold our County’s mandates and guidance, and with the support of our Board of Education, we will amend our masking protocols for staff and students as follows:
The school masking mandate will be lifted at the end of the day on Friday, March 11, 2022. Students and staff will be required to wear masks indoors at school and for after school events on Friday, 3/11.
The first day of in-class instruction with strongly recommended, but optional masking is Monday, March 14, 2022.
Masks become optional for those who are vaccinated and unvaccinated.
Staff is required to follow the requirements of Cal/OSHA which has also aligned with the State and County public health masking guidance. Therefore, masks for staff will also become optional at the end of the day on Friday, March 11, 2022.
Both State and County guidance state that masks continue to be strongly recommended, therefore we recognize and support the continued wearing of masks for students, staff, and visitors who choose to do so. Masks will be available at our schools and facilities for those who desire them, but will no longer be required in school settings.
With this change, it is important for parents and students to discuss their family’s expectations for mask wearing at school. We ask for your partnership in also reminding students to respect the choices of others, even when they differ from their own. No student or staff member should endure criticism or mistreatment for their choice to wear or not wear a mask at school and such behavior will not be tolerated.
At this time, changes to masking requirements do not impact our tracking, isolation, and quarantine protocols related to COVID-19.
We will continue to track reported positive cases and provide daily updates to our COVID-19 Dashboard.
If your student exhibits COVID-related symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19, please stay home and follow current isolation protocols.
Students exposed to a COVID positive person at school will continue to follow quarantine protocols.
Our modified quarantine student testing program will remain in place through the end of the school year, at which time State and County testing resources will be reevaluated.
It is important to remember that changes to mask policy do not signal an end to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Nicholas Moss, Alameda County Health Officer shared, “Cases are declining to near pre-surge levels everywhere, and this is the right time to move face masking guidance from requirement to recommendation in most settings. COVID will be with us perhaps forever, and masks are tools we can depend on for protection. New surges that threaten public health and the lives of vulnerable residents may call for quick and assertive action and a new requirement to mask.”
To that end, let us all recommit to practicing the mitigation measures of frequent hand washing, use of hand sanitizer, and staying home when sick to help ensure our students, staff, families, and community continue to keep the spread of COVID-19 on the decline.
Changes to other COVID-19 health and safety protocols will remain an evolving process. We will continue to update you as additional State and County guidance changes, and as we reevaluate and assess our District protocols in response to those changes.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support as we transition into a new phase of living and learning with COVID-19.
Regards,
LVJUSD Leadership
