Using Data to Inform Practice
Deni Leaders Day 20/11/2015
Task:
SYSTEMS CANNOT IMPROVE WHAT THEY DO NOT MEASURE
Good Assessment Practice is Crucial for Data
Implications for Schools
Key Points
Use of Formative Assessment to Inform Teaching
This year our milestones have included the use of 'I can' statements in all areas of Maths and the use of formative assessment to provide feedback to students and to place them in the best group for learning needs.
Use of Continuum Data and NAPLAN results
Evident-based Practice
John Hattie & Visible Learning - Gayle, with other principals had John Hattie day and have formed a network for Visible Learning.
Robyn will become a VISIBLE LEARNING EXPERT and will continue to develop her understanding and regular share at staff meetings and professional learning days that we have planned throughout 2016.
We will be participating in a community of practice in both areas to further develop our knowledge in the use of data and evidence.
How2Learn - I have attended Train the trainer training for our school and all teaching staff have begun Phase 1 training. The H2L strategy links perfectly with the What Works Best Document.
FoR - Gayle is a Lead trainer in FoR 3-6 Phase 1 and is currently training all teaching staff. Even though we are in the early stages of training, staff are reflecting on their teaching and programming practices and are now implementing higher quality programs that utilises backward mapping and more personalised learning. Next year Michelle will become a FoR trainer for our school as well.
Where to for 2016
We will need to continue to support them in the use of continuum data as a tool, with the focus on CTJ across all three class.
