There has been a lot happening lately in the Learning Commons. The morning recesses have been very busy with junior and intermediate students reading, studying, building in the Makerspace, and using the computers. It is wonderful to have classes using the space in the Learning Commons as an extension of their classroom. Stayed tuned for more programs and changes in the new year.

I will handing overdue notices for students who have not return their library books in a while. Could you please follow up with your students. Could primary teachers do an inventory of the library book bags and let me know if you need replacements or new bags for new students. Thank you for your help!

The Makerspace Movement

Are you wondering what all this talk is about Makerspaces in the Learning Commons? Watch the video below for an overview of the Makerspace movement. Please let me know if you are interested in partnering with me and your class in the Makerspace.

Upcoming Events

Scholastic Book Fair Dec 7th to 10th

Thank you for your support with the preview visits to the Scholastic Book Fair. It has generated a lot of interest and will hopefully result in a successful event. Students can visit the book fair this week at morning and lunch recess. Students may also visit the period after lunch if they have a library pass. If you need library passes let me know and I can put some in your mailbox.

If there are books in the book fair you think would be good additions to our library collection please let me know and I will put them aside to purchase from the funds raised this week.

Many new books have been processed over the last couple of months in the Learning Commons. If there are any books you asked for last year they maybe ready to check out. We have a wonderful selection of new picture books, chapter books and non-fiction titles. Some are on display in the new book section of the Learning Commons.

The Literacy Shed

The Literacy Shed is a website for teachers with an extensive collection of ideas and lesson plans for using visual resources such as videos, animations, photographs and picture books. The visuals are organized into categories and come from a variety of sources. This is an amazing resource for complementing a range of subjects.
