Teacher of the Year Debbie Thieme
Congratulations to Mrs. Debbie Thieme who was voted as Andrews Teacher of the Year for 2023. Mrs. Thieme has taught for 27 years. She has taught grades two, three, and five. Next year she will be teaching fourth grade. Mrs. Thieme is also known for her work with Star Lab. Star Lab is like a big dome tent that students go into to learn about the constellations. Mrs. Thieme takes every single class to Star Lab each year. I am sure your child has told you about it. Mrs. Thieme has also coached girls basketball, lead Student Council, and helped chair the Talent Show along with many other committees. She has been a mentor teacher to several of our new teachers over the last few years. Mrs. Thieme is an outstanding educator and we are very lucky to have her at Andrews.
Classified Person of the Year Kim Cocklin
Congratulations to Mrs. Kim Gentis-Cocklin for being nominated as our Classified Person of the Year for 2023. Even though Mrs. Cocklin has only been here a little over a year, she has made a huge positive impact on our students and staff. She often completes tasks before we realize we need something. By the time we ask, she has already done it. Mrs. Cocklin is very creative and helps post events on social media for us. She handles all the phone calls and visitors each day. She is positive and helpful to everyone she meets. Mrs. Cocklin also helps with all of our financial needs from depositing lunch money, paying our bills, ordering our supplies, helping with fundraising, and even coordinating our Robotics Team's trip to Dallas, Texas for Worlds Competition this month. She is funny and helps our students and staff smile and laugh each day. She makes our jobs easier and we are so grateful for the hard work she does each and every day with a smile.

Online Registration 2023-2024
Online Registration started April 24th. In order for your child to get transportation and an IPAD right away next year, you need to register them online. To do that, go to the HCCSC website and find the link to Power School for online registration. You will need your login and password for Power School. If you need help with that, or forgot your password, contact Mrs. Cocklin, our secretary, and she can help you. Our goal is to have everyone registered by the last day of school. I will be awarding suckers to each child who is registered this month. I will also be doing weekly drawings for a gift card to Dairy Queen. Please take a moment to go online and register for next year!!
Staff Appreciation 2023
May 8-12 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Our PTO is planning some special treats for our staff. Please take a minute to send your child's teachers a note of appreciation through email or a short note. Teachers and staff work very hard each day to keep your child safe and help them learn. They spend evenings and weekends planning, grading, and keeping up with all the expectations from the Indiana Department of Education. They spend summers training and preparing their classroom for new students. School Employees are unsung heroes!
Vaccination Information for 5th Grade
All 5th grade students (at least 10 years old) entering 6th grade next fall will need to receive immunizations that have been required by the Indiana Department of Health and our State Legislature. Your student will be required to receive: Tdap (Tenanus, Diptheria &Pertussis), MCV4 (to protect your student against meningitis), 2 varicella (or provide the month and year of chickenpox with your signature), and 2 Hepatitus A vaccines. You may receive these immunizations through your family physician or the local Health Department. They may be reached at 260-358-4831. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Sparks in the clinic.
Field Day 2023
Andrews annual Field Day will be held on Wednesday, May 24th. On that day, please make sure your child is dressed comfortably to be outside. They will be running and participating in various stations so they should also wear tennis shoes or other comfortable shoes. It is especially important to send a water bottle to school that day. We cannot put on sunscreen at school so please put that on your child in the morning before they come to school. If you have any questions about Field Day, please contact Mr. Childs, our physical education teacher.
