Museum Art @ Home!
Miss Rachel Simpson, our Middle School Art Teacher, gave her students a fantastic challenge
"It's been another successful week of sharing, use of expression, keeping connected, and being creative.
All of us, the students, the parents who helped, and myself had so much fun recreating famous classical paintings. We used items found in the home like props, outfits, fabric, backgrounds, use of light, shadows, texture, color, and photography to capture the students' artwork. I put each of them together in collage format, with text for reference to each student, famous artist, and the name of the famous art that they recreated."
Very well done!
Taking Spelling to the Next Level!
Barbara Misday one of our wonderful Fourth Grade Teachers shared this:
"Some of my kids study their spelling words by creating slide shows showing the meaning of the words. Fourth grade spelling words, or "Word Work," centers around the meaning of Greek and Latin Roots."
This is a terrific idea! What creative students we have!
Grade 7 & 8 Mind Mapping Work
Ms. Tanya Miller assigned this challenge. Here is what she had to say:
"In order to get 7th and 8th grade Design Thinking students out of their chair and OUTSIDE, they were assigned the challenge to assess the materials used in the construction of their homes. Students categorized materials into themes such as "used for aesthetics" or "used for strength" in order to analyze the design decisions made by architects and engineers in the building of their home.
The culmination of this project will the goal of making the strongest adobe brick by working with natural and found materials, and using the scientific process to identify sources of strength in this ancient and still-important building material."
A rare sighting of children doing chores! Be one of the cool kids, help your family with jobs around the house.

Guess Who! Can you match the teacher or staff member with their picture from childhood?

Yearbook - We Need Your Help!
Hello Franklin Academy!
The yearbook students are going to put together a yearbook for this year.
Since we don’t have a lot of photos after Christmas break, we would like to ask for parents/students/staff to send photos from home. We are featuring all grades –PS through 8th, as well as teachers and staff. Photos can be studying at home, playing outside, playing with pets, etc. If you have any ideas of what makes a good photo, feel free to suggest it.
Please email photos to yearbook2020@thefranklin.academy, along with name and grade.
Thank you!

Growing Veterans
Support Local Charities Run by Our Franklin Academy Families!
Here is a little bit about Growing Veterans history, and how they are helping veterans through these tough times.
Please check out their upcoming plant sale!
https://growingveterans.org/shop/
This from Christopher Brown TFA parent:
Growing Veterans was founded by a combat wounded USMC veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, Christopher Brown, and a former mental health counselor turned farmer, Christina Wolf. Together, they agreed using the farm as the catalyst for human connection and veteran reintegration could have a powerful impact on the health and well being of not only vets returning home, but the world.

Welcome to "Deep Thoughts with Chaplain Aaron!"
Hello staff, students, and parents of Franklin Academy!
Welcome to a new week! I hope your week will be filled with great connection with those around you and with your teachers and classmates. Below is a link to this week's "Deep Thoughts with Chaplain Aaron." This week we look at the final Core Commitment of the Franklin Academy, to Care.
Our discussion question to ask those around us is, "What is something you do to care for yourself?" And, our Weekly Service Challenge is to take a picture or video of you performing a good deed for someone else. Pass your results onto me, and if you want to (and have permission) feel free to post it on social media with the tag #allgooddeeds2020 . Have a great week!
