Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to our June newsletter. I hope you enjoy the many wonderful news stories showcased this month.
Student Success Stories
What an AMAZING night we had at Starry Sari Night! Our students showcased their magnificent talents and definitely made the crowd go wild on a Friday night! It was lovely seeing so many students and their families cheering on the students and celebrating the diverse cultures in the Liverpool Area. Thank you to Miss Maharaj, Mrs Goodbun and Mrs Arapa for your continued support to ensure the students were well-prepared.
Congratulations also to Khyati our School Ambassador for her involvement in the School Ambassador Program for 2022. This is a student future-focused leadership project involving 27 schools where students:
- identify an issue of importance across all the schools in their group
- develop a group action plan to address the issue
- implement the plan in their own school and support others in their group to implement the plan in their schools
- monitor and evaluate the impact of their group plan to determine if it has addressed the issue
- deliver a presentation on the outcome of their plan to other school ambassadors and special guests.
Staffing News
I would like to congratulate Miss Maharaj on her permanent employment at Liverpool Public School commencing officially in Term 3. We are extremely fortunate to have Miss Maharaj at Liverpool PS as her commitment and dedication to our students is absolutely phenomenal. I would also like to welcome Mrs Cooke who is working 2 days a week with our new arrivals students every Thursday and Friday. Mrs Cooke brings a wealth of knowledge to the role and has been a great addition to our school.
Compulsory School Attendance
Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. NSW public schools work in partnership with parents to encourage and support regular attendance of children and young people. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.
Did you know that regular school attendance helps students:
- develop a sense of belonging
- develop and maintain friendships
- be more engaged at school
- progress with their learning
- be more aware of career and life options.
At Liverpool Public School, we are doing lots to ensure that all students are at school each day. These include:
- monitoring lateness and absences of all students each day
- making phone calls home for 2 consecutive days absent, patterns in non-attendance, no explanation, regular lateness or too many early departures
- discussing student attendance concerns at our Learning and Support Team meetings
- collecting the attendance rate of each child at Liverpool PS.
Late Arrivals
School commences at 8:55am daily. We have noticed that some students are arriving after 8:55am each day, which is a late arrival and recorded in our system and must be explained by parents. It is essential that your child is at school on time each day as class work commences as soon as the bell goes. Arriving at school and class on time:
- ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day.
- helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine.
- give students time to greet their friends before class
- reduces classroom disruption.
Holidays during Term
Families are encouraged to travel during school holidays. If travel during school term is necessary, parents and carers are reminded they are to discuss this with the school principal. An Application for Extended Leave may need to be completed. Absences relating to travel will be marked as leave on the roll and therefore contribute to your child’s total absences for the year. In some circumstances students may be eligible to enrol in distance education for travel periods over 50 school days. This should be discussed with the school as an option. Please be aware that an application to travel needs to be approved by the principal and is up to the principal’s discretion and depends on a variety of factors.
For more information around Compulsory School Attendance please view the attached PDF below.
Student Incidents
Parents and carers are reminded that they are to contact the School Office to make an appointment if they have any concerns about any incident that involves their child. Parents and carers should not be approaching any other child or parents/carers outside of school to deal with a matter that occurs inside school grounds. All staff ensure that all class and playground matters are dealt with at school as soon as they occur. We thank you for your understanding with this matter.
Semester 1 Reports and Parent-Teacher Conferences
I would like to inform you that we have decided to send our Semester 1 Reports home in Term 3 Week 1 this year due to the continuing challenges of COVID and having many staff and students absent. Making this change has enabled our staff to have additional time to teach and assess student learning, so as the reports provide parents and carers meaningful and adequate information about your child's achievements. Our parent teacher conferences will now be held in Term 3 Week 2. More information will be sent home shortly about how to book an appointment. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding with this decision.
Getting started with parental controls in social media, games and apps
Many social media sites, games and apps now come with parental controls. The eSafety Guide has advice on safety features that can be useful for parents and carers, including how to use the settings to protect personal information and report online abuse. Please view this parents tip sheet around parental controls. The esafety website has some really important information around how you as parents can encourage safe use.
Walk Safely to School Day
Congratulations to all the boys and girls who walked to school on Friday 20 May! All students received a free apple as they entered into the school grounds to continue promoting their healthy lifestyle. We also had a colouring competition for all K-6 students. It was extremely hard to select the colouring competition winners from the many entries. Congratulations to the following students for winning the competition: Zara KT, Tamim 1D, Bora 1/2V, Sally 3SJ, Isabella 5M and Nevadah 6K. Each student received a book for their efforts. Thank you to Ms Vo for organising this event which was enjoyed by all!
Thanking you
Mrs Jenny Vajdevski

Enrolling for Kindergarten in 2023
We are accepting enrolments for Kindergarten 2023. Please use the online enrolment form to begin the enrolment process. Once submitted a member of our team will contact you. It is important to enrol your child early so that they are included in our upcoming transition program.
If your child or someone you know has a child who turns 5 before 31 July 2023 and we are the local school, they can enrol at Liverpool Public School for Kindergarten 2023.
We are asking parents and carers to contact the school if you have any children with additional needs enrolling in Kindergarten 2023. Parents and carers should also provide the school with any reports you may have outlining your child's needs.
Term 2 Overviews
From the Deputy Principal (Early Stage 1 & Stage 1) - Mrs Pritchard
Term 2 has been a very busy term so far and it has been a delight to see so many more events happening within the school for our students and community as well. Thankfully we are starting to have more community participation with parents and carers starting to come back on school site for events. Some highlights so far have been the Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea, K-6 Cross Country, Starry Sari Night Street Festival, the School Ambassador Launch Day and the return of Weekly Assemblies.
Teaching staff across the school have been very busy working on the Semester One Student Reports. The timeframe on these have been extended and will be going home to all families in Week 1, Term 3. The Parent Conferences for the reports will be held across Week 2. Information will be sent home shortly to families on how to make a booking to meet with their child’s classroom teacher and supporting teachers.
This term I have been monitoring student attendance, specifically whole day absences and late arrivals. All students need to be at school before the 8:55am bell, otherwise they are marked on the class roll as being late. Our school gates open at 8:30am and students can enter from this time and be ready for learning as soon as the bell goes.
Below is the data for late arrivals across Weeks 3, 4 and 5:
Week 3: 317 students late across the week
Week 4: 248 students late across the week
Week 5: 168 students late across the week
Teachers on the morning gate duties have been reminding students, parents and carers about being on time. This has been working as we have seen a decline in the numbers of students being late across the weeks. Well done to the students who are here on time. We ask that all students are on time and we see the numbers drop even further of late arrivals across the weeks.
A reminder that if your child is sick, they should be seeing a doctor and a medical certificate should be provided to the classroom teacher. If your child is away for 2 or more consecutive days, staff will make a phone call checking in to see how the student is and when they will be returning to school. It is an expectation that students across all NSW Public Schools be at school with a 90% attendance rate.
On Wednesday 8 June Kindergarten will be visiting Calmsley Hill Farm. Students are asked to arrive at 8:30am and be lining up in the Kindergarten lining up area to have their name marked on the roll. Students and their teachers will be making their way to the buses on Moore Street at 8:50am. The bus is scheduled to arrive at the farm by 9:30am. Any students who are late may miss the bus and not make it to the farm. All students will be back by 2:40pm in time for the 3:00pm bell.
Students who are not attending the excursion are expected to be at school for a normal school day. They will remain in a combined Kindergarten class with a teacher for the day. It should be a very exciting day for Kindergarten’s first excursion of the year.
Thank you
Mrs Pritchard
(Relieving Deputy Principal)
From the Deputy Principal (Stages 2 & 3) - Mrs Alfaro
Term 2 has been another busy term at Liverpool Public School. I’m so excited that assemblies are back and I look forward to being able to present our students in Year 3 to Year 6 with Silver Deputy Principal Awards. For families who need a reminder of what our school award system looks like here is a picture.
Our students look wonderful in their red and blue school uniforms. Another reminder as the cold weather sets in for winter that our school colours are red, white and blue. If girls are wearing tracksuit pants as a part of their winter school uniform, they should be navy blue.
Boys should be in long grey pants for winter. Many students are wearing jeans, black tracksuit pants or black tights to school, and these are not a part of our school uniform. Jackets and jumpers should also be red or blue. This is especially important if students are attending excursions or PSSA sport. Students not in full school uniform including the correct colour pants and jumpers will not be permitted to attend. Girls who wear tights or stocking under their uniforms should have navy blue tights, not black. We also ask that hijabs for girls be school colours. We have a second-hand uniform shop where parents are able to buy good quality second hand uniforms at a reduced price. Student assistance can also be sought for eligible families by making an appointment to see Mrs Vajdevski.
Totally Smiles (The School Dentist) will be visiting our school again from Tuesday 14 June 2022 to Friday 24 June 2022. All students who were not seen in the first visit are booked in to be seen this time. We also have places for any other students who did not return a note last time and who would like to see the dentist. Notes can be picked up from the front office and will also be available online through our Facebook account and Skoolbag.
In May our skippers and dancers were given the opportunity to perform at Starry Sari night. This was a fantastic chance for us to showcase all of the talent we have here at Liverpool Public School. A special thank you to Ms Maharaj, Mrs Goodbun and Mrs Arapa who are extremely talented in this area and who gives up their lunch times to help train the dance squad and our skipping team. Thank you also to all of the teachers and staff who stayed back at school on the Friday to watch and support our students with this event.
Our debating team; led by Mrs Goodbun have been debating up a storm with their first debate against Newbridge Heights Public School. Unfortunately, they were outdebated by the other team on the day however it was a great experience for the team, and they all represented our school with pride.
PSSA has started with our teams competing each Friday. It is a privilege to be chosen to represent our school at PSSA and I know our students are loving the opportunity to meet and play against other schools in our area. Please remember that full sports uniform and a school hat must be worn each week to PSSA and behaviour must meet school expectations to continue to participate weekly.
Congratulations to our Cross Country runners who represented our school at the Zone Cross Country on Tuesday 24 May. We’re glad the rain stayed away to enable the event to go ahead.
Thursday 26 May was National Sorry Day. At LPS we commemorated this day with a special assembly and Welcome to Country given by Amarlee P. Reconciliation week began on Friday 27 May to Friday 3 June. Our students have been participating in activities and events to help them to learn about Aboriginal culture and the role we all play in reconciliation.

3-6 Deputy Principal

PenPal Giants Program
After a year of writing letters to our pen pals from another Sydney school, we finally got to meet them!
Students from both schools came together at Featherdale Wildlife Park on Thursday 2 June to meet in person. This great experience was made possible in partnership with Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre and the generosity of Featherdale Wildlife Park. A wonderful experience for all the students involved in the 'PenPal Giants' program.
Kind regards,
Mrs Newman and Mrs Alpay
Student Representative Council (News) - SRC
On Wednesday 25 May Khyati travelled with Ms Maharaj and Mrs Pritchard to the School Ambassador Day. Here Khyati sat in workshops to learn about leadership and creating a school project that would make an impact. She collaborated with other school leaders from neighbouring schools and came up with a project idea to help Liverpool Public School become a cleaner space. All School Ambassadors received their ambassador badge.
SRC meetings will commence week 6 every Wednesday at recess time in the library.

Early Stage 1 News - Ms Vejzovic
This term Kindergarten students participated in their first cross country race. They started their day by knowing their course and where they would be running. The boys were racing between each other while the girls had their own race. All students had a fun filled day.
This is just another reminder to please make sure all students’ belongings are labelled, including their school hats, lunch boxes and water bottles.
As the colder days are approaching it is important that students are wearing their full school uniform. This includes wearing the red school jumper or blue school jacket. For girl’s navy stockings and navy pants can be worn. Boys must wear grey school pants.
Please speak to your child’s classroom teacher if you have any questions.
Ms Vejzovic
Rel Assistant Principal – Early Stage 1
From the Classroom - KT and Ms Thach
In KT we have been learning about how to respond to texts and identifying our favourite stories. We have learnt how to express our ideas using drawings and then talk about our ideas using sentences.
Check out our amazing work!
Stage 1 News - Ms Dunlop & Mrs Georgiou
It has been a busy month full of learning and opportunities for Stage 1. Even the rain hasn’t been able to dampen our enthusiasm! Thank you to all the students who are arriving to school on time. We do the most important learning first thing in the morning, to set the students up for a successful day. By ensuring students are at school on time, we are providing them with the best opportunity to learn.
It was wonderful to see the return of our formal K-2 school assembly. Congratulations to all the students who received an award and thank you to our families who were able to attend.
Well done to 2DA and 2H for hosting our assemblies so far. Our next K-2 assemblies are:
- Friday 10th June hosted by 2G
- Friday 24th June hosted by 1R
Ms Dunlop and Mrs Georgiou
From the Classroom - 1R and Ms Raymundo
This term 1R has been learning about number combinations and working hard to use different strategies to solve number problems.
Each day we have been doing hands on activities building number knowledge and building a deep understanding of numbers. We have enjoyed exploring numbers using tens frames and working with our friends to solve tricky math problems. We are getting better at using the + and – symbols to write down number sentences.
We enjoy subitising numbers to warm our brains up for maths and number talks each day to challenge our minds.
Great job 1R!
Stage 2 News - Mrs McDonald
A timely reminder with Winter upon us please label all jumpers and jackets with your child’s name. I would recommend students bring the school sloppy joe to wear in class and then the warmer wind break jacket for outside. There is also a scarf that can be purchased from the uniform shop.
Year 3 have been learning about the author Margaret Wild and looking at some of her books. One in particular was the Treasure Box. 3SJ and their teachers Ms Klumpp and Mrs Johnson found their own treasure box.
Students in Year 3 have been looking at time and position in maths. On Friday’s students have been participating in school sport where fundamental movement skills are applied to different games. Please enjoy the photos of our year 3 students showing what they have been learning.
Thank you Mrs McDonald and the Stage 2 teachers.
From the Classroom - 4G and Mrs Goodbun
4G have been busy!
This semester in History, we have been investigating early explorers and the First Fleet. Each student has had to select an explorer, then work in presentation teams to create an inquiry question. Once they finished researching the question, they have worked with their team to create a presentation.
Most teams have worked on Google Slides; however some have decided to create information posters and explorer reference cards.
Stage 3 News - Mrs Kirkness
