Behavioral Adaptations
Competition
Competition
Competition results from niche overlap. Niche overlap is when use of the same limited resource by two or more species. During competition some animals will fight to the death for their resources. Some plants release toxins into the soil that prevent other species from growing nearby. As well as restricting the space of the other species.
Beak to Beak
These two flamingos are exhibiting competition (rough behavior) in order to win over the habitat.
Paw to Paw
Niche overlap has occurred and the two tigers are rough housing in order to win and take over their home.
Antlers to Antlers
As antlers battle antlers they fight for their territory because there are limited resources.
Territory
Territorial animals defend animals that contain a nest, den or mating sit. They defend their territory to get food for their families. Defense rarely creates a fight. Normally there is a display by the animals show how. It can be visual or vocally.
