Grover Beach Elementary School
Parent Letter
From the Principal:
Greetings Grover Beach Families,
Welcome back from Spring Break-though if your house is anything like mine it probably was not that much different than the previous week. Regardless, I hope you had an opportunity to spend quality time with your family.
New Information
Week 4 of Distance Learning started today. Teachers continue to provide access to education via Google Classroom. If you need a packet they are available for pick up at Fairgrove Elementary School. Please note that Grover Beach Paper Packets are only available at Fairgrove as all schools are now creating their own packets. The principal at Fairgrove kindly allowed me to distribute Grover Beach packets from her site. Packets are available for pick up between 11am - 1pm at Fairgrove during lunch distribution. If you cannot make that time please email me at christian.holst@lmusd.org and I will arrange a time to get the packet to you. If you need a packet and have not yet filled out this form so that I produce enough packets.
As mentioned above lunch and breakfast is still available at Fairgrove and the other locations (NHS, AGHS, Mesa Middle School, and Judkins) from 11am - 1pm.
The Talent Show Must Go On! Miss Nerney is working on adapting the talent show to go digital. Earlier today I emailed all families that had previously signed up to participate in the Talent Show this document. If your student had not planned to participate, but is now interested please email Miss Nerney at samantha.nerney@lmusd.org
PRESCHOOL ONLY:
Preschool Families. Preschool Grab and Go bags will be ready for pick up. Monday, April 20, 9-11 am and Thursday, April 23, 1-3 pm at Grover Beach Elementary. These bags are for preschool families only.
Reminders:
After taking feedback from over 2000 LMUSD families and working closely with our faculty and staff, Lucia Mar has taken the following actions for the remainder of the school closure.
Moving forward, teachers will work with the following updated guidelines to assign work to students. Please note that the indicated times represent both time spent with the teacher completing a lesson and any assigned independent practice.
Preschool/TK--approximately 45 minutes per day, with additional options for play/art/etc.
Kinder-2nd--approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours, including PE for grades 1 and 2.
3rd-6th--approximately 2 to 3 hours, including PE for all, and music for grades 4 and 5.
We are moving to Credit/No Credit grading for third trimester. Guidance from the California Department of Education is clear that all students should be “held harmless” for work completed during the school closure. To that end, and to ensure an equitable experience for all Lucia Mar students, we have taken this action to ensure that we are grading students fairly for work completed. Elementary report cards will include only narrative commentary from teachers,

Chromebook
If you or your student is tired of the screen going to sleep after several minutes of inactivity there is an extension you can download to keep the screen awake.
I made a video recording of the process of getting the extension for the chromebook. You can watch it to learn how to download the extension or please follow these directions. You can watch the video here. It is in English and Spanish.
Once a student has logged in to the device type www.google.com
Then type Chrome Web Store
Click on Extensions
Once it has been added it will show up in the upper right hand corner and have a picture of a moon. Click on it and it will change to a sun. Now your screen should not go to sleep.
