Day 1 Objective

Students will identify pennies, nickels, and dimes and show understanding of their amounts by sorting the coins into like piles and counting the amount of money in each pile.

Lesson

  1. Anticipatory Set
  2. Students will be given multiple pennies, nickels, and dimes mixed together.
  3. Students will create 3 piles. A pile including all the pennies, a pile including all the nickels, and a pile including all the dimes.
  4. Once coins are sorted, students will count how much money they have in each pile.
  5. Students will practice sorting and counting coins 3 different times.
  6. Closing assessment
