Summary
In the Field- Kiowa is dead and the young soldier is shaking, remembering the last seconds he has with him. The soldier turned on the flashlight and the rest was unfolded.
Facing It- The veteran goes to the Vietnam Veteran Memorial and almost expecting to see his name. He finds a fallen comrade's name and his unfortunate ending.
Important Passages
In the Field- " A stupid thing to do, but he did it anyway, and he remembered Kiowa leanining in for a look at the picture-- "Hey, she's cute," he's said--and then the field exploded all around them. The last time Kiowa was still alive was before what happened next. A mistake that has crucially hurt the squad.
Facing It- "I go down the 58,022 names, half expecting to find my own in letters like smoke."
Maybe he's going through alot and he wanted to die. He's going through a trauma remembering the war and is living a nightmare.
