Kindness Counts
Raising Kind Kids
No Act Of Kindness, However Small, Is Wasted - Aesop
It is the season of giving and receiving. Yet are we teaching our children that shopping and feasting matter more than kindness and gratitude? Harvard psychologist, Richard Weissbourd, who runs the 'Making Caring Common' project, did some analysis. The project teaches kids empathy. From the very common tots' act of stepping on a bug to teenagers being disrespectful toward teachers, children portray destructive feelings in many ways. But about 80 percent of the youth in Weissbourd's study said their parents were more concerned with their achievement or happiness than if they cared for others. The interviewees said that “My parents are prouder if I get good grades in my classes than if I’m a caring community member in class and school.”
What can we do about this? Below are two insightful videos on gratitude and how it affects our happiness. View at your leisure to gleam for some suggestions and activities on how to raise moral, responsible, and respectful kids. Enjoy!
