What is the Civil War?
Abraham Lincoln
Lincoln was the one who decided to have the citizens fight in place of the states seceding. Considering that Lincoln was the commander-in-chief during the time of the war, it was him who chose the men he had working along side him. In this position Lincoln had to be picky on who was fit for the duty and who wasn't. He used this method to pick his generals in the war but showed a series of bad luck. Through these hard times Lincoln was still an effective part of American history because of the effort he put in to make a change.
Jefferson Davis
Davis was the kind of man who had a real little consideration as to what other people thought. Meaning that if they didn't agree with what he had to say their opinion didn't matter. As a second problem, he wasn't very successful on that battle field either. All of his failures are one of the reasons he and he an the Confederate Government were to leave Richmond. Considering all the problems that Davis caused, I don't believe that he was very effective to history.
Ulysses S. Grant
In the beginning of Grants time in the war, he was booming with battle victories left and right. By the time of1862 he was known as the "Unconditional Surrender". With all the glory of his wins, they was a rough patch he got hit with eventually. e and his troops were overpowered by the raid of the Confederate troops. This raised many questions about sir Ulysses S. Grant to Abraham Lincoln. Because Lincoln decided to follow his instincts, he kept Grant which ended up in more victories in the battles he was involved in. By the time of 1864, Grant was now granted the award of Lieutenant general. And as general-in-chief of the Armies of the U.S. By the looks of it Grant served as an efficient roe in the War.
Robert E. Lee
In 1861, knowing that Lee was a trusted general Lincoln decided to give him the opportunity to come with him in the army. The opportunity was passed up because he didn't see the point in fighting against his own territory. After he
William Carney
William Carney participated in the 54th Massachusetts infantry during the battle of Fort Wagner. William took on the job to pick up their regimental flag and had brought it to the location of the war as a wounded soldier. Because he had taken on this job, it caused him another serious injury.
Philip Bazaar
Out of six men Philip was the one who went in to the fort and ended his party by carrying dispatches in to the battle.
Julia Ward Howe
Wrote the "Battle Hymn of the Republic"
John Wilkes Booth
Assassinated Abraham Lincoln. In the Ford's theatre, he shot Lincoln within a close range and he escaped immediately after.
William T. Sherman
In 1864, Sherman led his 6,000 men on a march from Atlanta to Savannah, Georgia. The march was 285 miles long. Williams men took food and livestock with them, although they didn't destroy the town.
