Our Path Note Topic
During our lifetime, we are lucky to come across people who make a difference, and we are so grateful that they have been a part of our lives. This week, WASD celebrates a life that has done that and more.
Last weekend, we lost one of our WASD team members that meant so much to so many. Lori Akers, our Health & Physical Education teacher at Fairview Avenue Elementary School.
Lori was WASD's Teacher of the Year for 2020/21. She was loved by her learners and her fellow Fairview Falcon friends. However, her life also touched so many others in WASD.
First and foremost, Lori was a loving wife and mom of two daughters. She cared deeply about her learners. Lori also coached. She organized a Sneaker Drive for students who could not afford sneakers. She was also very active in her church and taught Sunday School and Bible classes.
Lori began her teaching career in 1996 at Delaware Valley and WASD was blessed to then have Lori teach our learners for 22 years.
As a testament to how her students felt about her--a middle school student shared a photo he had of her and him when he was in 3rd grade. Lori had taught him how to make rice krispie treats. Ironically, she had a photo at her desk of him as a 5th grader.
Although Lori Akers will leave a big void in our hearts, she has left an even bigger legacy in our district.

Piece of the Puzzle
This Week's Piece of the Puzzle is Lori Akers. Lori went above and beyond for her learners. She organized donation drives to benefit her learners. She was always willing and able to help her fellow Fairview Falcon staff members. Lori was WASD's 2020/21 Teacher of the Year. She was a friend to many, a mentor to a lot, and an inspiration to all of us.
Please keep Lori and her family in your hearts and prayers as we celebrate her as this week's Piece of the Puzzle.
