TRUE NORTH: SCN FOOTBALL VALUE SYSTEM

Moving into the 2023 season, I wanted to freshen up our Northstar Mentality. Ten years ago, our 2013 class developed the Iron Star Code. Each point on the 5-pointed star is recognized to represent one belief that our program will be built on. Each point on the star is equal to the one before it. The values of Leadership, Investment, Selflessness, Accountability, and Preparation make up our North Star. In the center of the completed stars lies the T.E.A.M. For the past ten seasons and every moment in between, we have remained consistent in our steadfast belief in these five values. They are our "True North". These beliefs will be our compass in all we do as a program on and off the field. Much like the Northstar in maritime days, we will use our "True North" as the compass we will follow in the journey to the elite.

For this reason, we will be renaming our Iron Star Code as the St. Charles North "True North" mentality. I am proud of these words and what they mean. I have seen them transform lives, including my own. I hope you can share in our "True North" words and discuss these values with your son or daughter as much as possible. These behaviors win, and belief must exist in our journey to the elite. As we say, championship behaviors preceded championships. We must commit ourselves to these habits until they become our rituals.

I am passionate about these ideologies. I have spent the past ten years working relentlessly to develop this program and the people who are a part of it. While teaching is my job, coaching is my calling. I want to make this program the best high school athletics program in Illinois. I do not say this to toot my own horn; I am sharing this with you to provide insight into what I envision this program can be. The bottom line is that this program is significant to me, as are all of you. I cannot wait to take on the journey of this coming season.

Message from Coach Pomazak

On this Mother's Day, I want to take a moment to thank all the Mothers in our program. Your support and dedication to your sons and daughters are humbling. Parenting is complex, and raising a child is the greatest gift and challenge I have experienced. I often feel as if it is like my heart is walking outside of my body. As a son, I remember my mom sitting in the stands and watching me play. She felt every hit, every bump, and every bruise. I did not make it easy on her, but she is always there for me. Just as you are there for your son or daughter in our program. The relationship between a son and his mom is a special one. There is not a bond that I can think of that is more unique. You have these giant men who are ferocious on the gridiron every Friday night, yet when they are in their Mom's arms, they are brought back to the little boy who will always be Mom's baby. I laugh but trust me, I am 44, and I am and will always be Robby in the eyes of my Mom. I hope your day is unique and filled with the love and laughter of a family brought together.

I would be remiss if I did not take a moment to honor my wife, Rebecca, this Mother's Day. On July 31st, 2013, we welcomed our twin daughters, Morgan and Isla, into this world. Beck was an all-star! Two natural childbirths in one day separated by 47 agonizing minutes! I clearly remember how scared we both were since the delivery was premature and extremely difficult. Becky fought and persevered through it all, and despite the pain and extreme danger to herself, she delivered our beautiful baby girls. In one moment, she changed our world and gave me the greatest gift of a lifetime. I don't know if I have ever thanked her for this, so here it goes. Becky, thank you! Thank you for being the best mother to our children I could have ever hoped for. Thank you for the sacrifices you have made daily and year after year for this family. The life of a coach's wife is not an easy one. I am out of the house many days working long hours, and you must carry the brunt of it all. Our girls are a reflection of your love and kindness, they share the beauty you see in this world, and it takes my breath away. I can not truly articulate how special you are to me and our girls, but I want you to know how appreciated you are and that I love you.

SCN FOOTBALL NEEDS YOUR HELP

The Stars Football program has been invited to the University of Illinois for their annual cream of the crop 7 on 7 . It is a great honor to be invited to this elite event. However, with this invite comes a 2-hour bus ride to Champaign. Anyone who has ridden in a yellow bus understands that they are built for transport, not comfort. To keep our athletes comfortable and best support their physical needs, we are looking for a volunteer or multiple volunteers willing to sponsor a coach bus rental for our kids for that day. If you are interested in learning more, please email robert.pomazak@d303.org.

Thank you

DONATIONS UPDATE

We have raised 250 dollars towards our Coach Bus rental for the U of I event. The estimated rental cost is about 1500 dollars. If we do not get that number, we will take a yellow bus. If you can help pledge money to the cause, don't hesitate to get in touch with Coach Pomazak at robert.pomazak@d303.org

MAY WRAP UP

Our off-season Stars concluded there 10-week cycle this past Friday. It was a great spring and the numbers are rolling in. In the coming days/weeks, we will be sharing the % gains for each player and posting their combine testing rankings and improvements. Our Stars got better this spring which means we will only shine brighter this season.

ELITE LEADERS

We try to stay connected all year in the St. Charles North Football program. When our winter sports athletes compete for the Stars, those not in season work in the weight room and gyms. It is an excellent opportunity to build relationships away from the football field. Each week culminates with an Elite Leader being named. The best part of the award is that the player from the week prior is the one who names the recipient. It is an extraordinary moment when our players highlight each other. I am excited to see who gets the opportunity to be called an "Elite Leader" this off-season.

STARS 7'S Continuing to build

Thanks to Lance Reinke, who has headed up or Stars 7's program we will have 2 teams for the Barrington All-American League. By IHSA rules, Stars staff cannot be associated with the team during the competition. League play begins this Sunday. Best of luck to our teams.

UPDATE: Our Dad Coaches and players continue to put in great work and preparation. The goal of the league is to develop players at all levels. The wins are not the goal, period. Players' use depends on needs for the week and overall development playing time. The goal will always be to focus on the player and their developmental needs. I have been extremely pleased with all aspects of this league. Continued success to our Stars 7's

MEETING RECAP

Thank you to the parents who came to our parent group meeting. Many great topics were discussed, the biggest being parent support for the various sub-committees we run within our SCN 4th Phase. Attached you will find the notes from the meeting. We seek leaders to step in and help elevate the program in all areas. We need help, and I feel our parents are the best, so I am excited to see who steps into these crucial roles.

College Visitation Rules

The NCAA D1 FBS contact period has started. That means colleges can schedule times to visit with the 2024 recruits. In the coming weeks, we will have an excellent opportunity to get our players in front of some of the best and brightest colleges in the country. Our protocol for college visits is as follows.

1. Coach Pomazak emails administration scheduled visits for the coming day, including which students have been asked to attend by visiting college coach.

2. Students will receive a pass before the scheduled visit.

3. Students will only have 15 minutes to visit. This will help limit the loss of instructional time.

4. If students have any assessments during the visit, they are not permitted to come.

5. Teachers have the right to ask students not to leave class.

6. Students should refrain from missing the same class twice a row.
