INDOOR PERCUSSION & WINTER GUARD COMPETITION AT BOB JONES HIGH SCHOOL
Our Indoor Percussion and Winter Guard groups will be performing at Bob Jones HS this coming Saturday (March 4th) as part of their SCGC (circuit) competition season. These extracurricular groups, involving 9-12 graders, and are an important part of our entire band program here at Buckhorn - the demand on them is very high physically, mentally, and of course technically, on percussive techniques and dance/equipment techniques, respectively. We have TWO Winter Guards as well as students from FIVE different schools in our Indoor Percussion group (Buckhorn HS and MS, Hazel Green, Madison County, and Westminster Christian Academy).
The competition is at Bob Jones HS - entrance at the South end between the auditorium and main gym - tickets are $8 and there are concessions. This is very kid-friendly!
Performance times:
JV Winter Guard - 12:45 PM ("Jealous of the Angels")
Indoor Percussion - 3:32 PM ("Tribalism")
Varsity Winter Guard - 6:47 PM ("A Life Without")

BASEBALL STARTS THE SEASON OFF STRONG
Class: 7A
Last season: 22-26
Coach: Roger Wright, first season back after coaching the Bucks from 1997-2014
Key players: Kyle Davis (LHP/OF, Sr.), Cory Mason (LHP/1B, Sr.), Jordan Henshaw (SS, Sr.) Recruiting: Davis (Motlow State CC signee), Henshaw (Belmont commit)
Key losses: Will Stump (1B), Griffin Blake (2B)
Coachspeak: “I had these guys when they were freshmen. They’ve grown up a little bit since I was with them last. We have 16 seniors so we’re an older team. With experience it’s probably made this a little easier for me. Being out two years and coming back to kids I already knew, it’s a pretty easy transition for me. My youngest son (of three boys) is a 10th-grader. With him being a 10th-grader it’s basically the reason I came back.” -- Wright
They said it ... : “I’m looking forward to it. I’ve known these guys since we were in seventh grade, maybe longer. I’m looking forward to playing my last year with them.” -- Davis
“We’ve played with each other since we were in seventh grade. I love them like my brothers. I wouldn’t want to do this with anybody else.” -- Mason
-----
With seven games played so far this season, the Varsity Bucks have won six. A strong start to the season, with 16 seniors leading the team alongside Coach Roger Wright!
2/20: Bucks 6 - Austin 2; Bucks 1 - Austin 0
2/23: Bucks 7 - Priceville 2
2/24: Bucks 3 - Thompson 9
2/25: Bucks 1 - Cullman 0 ; Bucks 6 - Oxford 3
2/27: Bucks 9 - Fort Payne 0
JV Bucks are undefeated so far this season with two wins over Priceville (10-0) and Fort Payne (12 -3).
Freshman Bucks started the season off by winning the preseason tournament with a 3-2 victory over James Clemens in the championship game.

Sign Up to Round Up!
The Round Up Program was started by The Schools Foundation and Huntsville Utilities to support local public school systems. The Schools Foundation is a funding partner of Madison County Schools. The more residential and commercial locations that round up, the more funding we can receive. Estimates show that if just half of the residential Huntsville Utilities users rounded up, it would generate approximately $500,000 to support our schools! By rounding up your utility bill to the nearest dollar each month, you help invest in the future of our students!
You can easily sign up to round up online:
http://www.hsvutil.org/myhsvu…/checkbill/roundup/signup.html
It might be a penny, it might be 25 cents, it might be 99 cents, but it will be no more than $11.88 a year. It takes less than 1 minute to fill out.
Thank you for supporting one of our community partners! Go Bucks!
