Buddhism Spreads in Japan

Because Buddhism had the support of Prince Shotoku, Buddhism spread rapidly. It had not replaced Japans Shinto religion. People still practiced it along with Shinto. Different forms of Buddhism had developed over time. One form was Zen, It held that something Devine and precious is in every person.

Some of the Buddhist sects flourished while some didn't. Zen became more and more common throughout Japan. Zen was a very simple form of Buddhism. Zen later spread to to other places and became popular in the west.
