Skyward Family Access
Skyward Family Access Goes Live!
Skyward Family Access (similar to Parent Portal on Infinite Campus) is now available to parents with students in the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District. It enables you to make payments, update telephone numbers and email addresses, view student schedules and attendance, and check on student grades using any personal device! This important tool will help you monitor your child's progress in school and allow for increased communication with teachers.
While most records for Skyward Family Access are maintained by the District office (e.g., address changes can only be made at the WAWM Enrollment Center) there are some records that parents can maintain to ensure accuracy. We are asking parents to review and/or revise their home, cell, and work telephone numbers and email addresses. In addition, parents will be able to make food service and fee payments online.
Each parent/guardian active in Skyward has been sent a letter with personalized login and password information.

8th Grade Career Fair - Monday, November 20 - 8:30-10:30 am
Lane is excited to announce we will be running our second annual Career Fair on Monday, November 20 from 8:30 to 10:30 am. We will again be using an arena-style format in our auxiliary gym with 8th graders visiting tables and gathering information about various careers.
This is where we need your help. Last year, we had many Lane parents volunteer their time and share their careers with our students. We are looking for professionals in the following fields to participate in the Career Fair, but any and all career fields are welcome. Please contact one of us if you can volunteer or if you know of someone that we should contact. Thank you so much.

Social Emotional Learning Lessons
Mindfulness is a practice of being in the present moment. It’s not thinking of the past or the future but instead focusing on the here and now. Mindfulness is a way to help students connect with their bodies and minds and learn ways to remain calm and focused throughout their day.
In the past two weeks counselors have delivered lessons on mindfulness to all our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Students have concentrated on mindful breathing and listening, participated in mindful movements and body scans to determine where they feel stressors in their bodies, and learned specific mindful techniques like the 2-minute drop in and the mindful pause. Mindfulness is backed by research and the benefits of continued mindful practice are plentiful:
Improved ability to sustain attention during a performance task
Boosts to working memory
Enhanced relationships due to less emotional reactivity
Promotion of empathy and compassion
To further help our students and to create a mindfulness school at Lane, teachers are also participating in mindfulness training and practice.
JK Lee Bullying Prevention & Bystander Intervention Program
On November 8 all our 6th grade students will be participating in a program on bullying prevention and bystander intervention. We are fortunate to have staff from the JK Lee Tae Kwon Do studio meet with our students this day to work on verbal defense, building confidence, word blocks, and direct and indirect bystander intervention.
