Shelter Staff Christmas Party

The Valley River Humane Society's Board of Directors was honored to service lunch to the Shelter Staff and Volunteers for their Annual Christmas Party! Lasgana, Chicken Alfredo, fresh garden salad, and rolls were served, complimented by a pile of desserts.

The staff and volunteers at the Shelter have a tremendous responsiblity and work load with VRHS being the only shelter in the region. The work is endless and the dedication of our staff and volunteers is truly appreciated by the Board of Directors.

Lap Dog Holiday

The staff and volunteers at VRHS insist on following up on new adoptees. Volunteer Sherry reached out to new pup parent Scott Barnet and he sent a sweet note and photo of ZiZi.

From Scott:

Here is a recent picture of ZiZi... as she is my 60 lb lap dog now.. but still a hellion puppy.. LOL..

Love Her so Much... Her and Clifford have grown very fond of each other... Look how relaxed she is with her leg hanging down.. totally comfortable..

Take Care...

"Big" Frank and "Lil" Mary Schuler, owners/brokers, of Big Realty in Murphy had a Donation Drive for Valley River Humane Society Shelter during month of December. Their generous efforts netted over $200 worth of donations for the Valley River Humane Society Shelter. Volunteers Jim and Phyllis Gerke along with VRHS Board President Melody Johnson met with the Schulers and Big Realty Office Manager Leslie Miskove to pick up donations. We thank Frank, Mary, and everyone at Big Realty for taking the time during such a busy month to help VRHS.

Martin's Creek Elementary Donates

Teaching Them to Care

The Martins Creek 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes wanted to make the holidays a bit merrier for the animals and their caregivers at the Valley River Humane Society. MCS students collected over 150 lbs of dog food and over 100 lbs of cat food along with treats, toys, cat litter, detergent, blankets, and towels. We would like to say a special thank you to each caregiver at VRHS as they care for “all creatures, great and small.”

From Shelter Manager Kirsty Waller:

Thank you to the 4th grade (and others) of Martins Creek School for their wonderful donations and Christmas letters to the staff of VRHS. Thank you Mrs. Casey for organizing the donation drive, and Mr. Casey for delivering them to the shelter.

Merry Christmas to you all!!!!

The fees are used to help keep the doors to our shelter open. Support for our organization comes mostly from private donations from people like you. Your membership fees will help a great deal!

Consider becoming a member…Your gift can provide neglected and abused animals with shelter, food, medical care, kindness, and a chance to find a forever home!

Another great adoption event was in December 4th at Tractor Supply in Murphy! All 12 kitties found a new forever home. Three dogs were adopted (Belle, Buddy and Fritzie) and one is being fostered (Blaze). We thank everyone for their generosity and thank our volunteers for their time and effort to make these Adoption Events possible. This monthly event is held weather permitting every first Saturday at Tractor Supply. Follw our Facebook for information.

Heidi's Fund

A generous Murphy family comes to the rescue after seeing the edititoral in the August 18, 2021 Cherokee Scout regarding the Valley River Humane Society. The needs at the shelter are great so this family started " Heidi's Fund" for VRHS at United Community Bank in Murphy. Their deposit was for $1000! Their hope is to see this account grow to help the shelter. They are asking local families to donate $10 or more to help the animals at the shelter. Please visit United Community and make your deposit out to VRHS for Heidi's Fund.

VRHS Thrift Store News

Volunteers needed! This is an easy and rewarding volunteer opportunity. Come by and talk to us.

Over 40% of all expenses for the Shelter are subsidized by the VRHS Thrift Shop! So, every time you donate to or buy something from the Thrift Shop it REALLY helps.

Anytime you clean out your closet, your basement, your attic, or any other area, please bring those things to us you no longer need or want. We can then turn around and resell those things and those proceeds go to helping the animals. Please visit the Thrift Stop often. There are some GREAT bargains and it really helps!
