A Few Words from Mrs. Abrams...
Happy New Year! The students came back ready to work this week and as expected many are quite tired as they get back into their routines. This week we are kicking off the PTA APEX Fun Run Fundraiser! Your child should have brought home their pledge packets and many are already receiving prizes today. Thank you! The culminating event will take place on January 13th during the school day and we can't wait!
Thank you also for the continued "Shout Outs" to our staff! I look forward to celebrating those as we continue 2022! (Link Above)

Hutto ISD Parent Body Safety Presentation
Please read information below from the Hutto ISD student services department:
Howard Norman students will be participating in body safety presentations during the
month of February.
Teaching about body safety and dating/relationship violence is both part of Texas Education Code (Chapter 37 Sec. 37.0831) and the Texas Model for School Counseling. HISD has partnered with the Williamson County Children's Advocacy Center because they are the experts in this field -- by having the CAC provide the presentations we are ensuring that our students receive consistent and age-appropriate information.
If you would like to opt your student out of this presentation or have any questions please contact our school counselor, Mrs. Harltine, (denise.hartline@huttoisd.net) directly. An information night will be held virtually this Thursday from 6-7:15 pm. The link can be found below.

January Guidance
This month in the guidance lessons we are learning about growth mindset and how our brains grow. One way to help your child develop a growth mindset is by helping them look at their challenges each day. Try some of the following questions:
1. What was the biggest challenge you faced today? (Ask your child, and then have them ask the question back!)
2. How can you and I think about these challenges in a new way?
3. What can we do differently tomorrow if we face similar challenges?
One way that we teach this is through the phrase the power of yet. We will always have challenges in our lives, but it is how we respond to them that not only determines success or failure but also strengthens our character. When you hear your child saying I can’t do math, for example, have them add the word yet to the end. Our mindsets are great predictors of our outcomes.
You can also reinforce growth mindset by reading books and talking about the challenges that the characters face. You can find these at your local bookstore or even on youtube!
