A Note from Your Principals
As we wrap up another week of exciting learning at Eli Terry, we wanted to take a moment to address a topic that is crucial for the social-emotional well-being of our students: relational aggression. This form of behavior, often subtle and relational in nature, is impacting the social dynamics within our school community.
Relational aggression involves actions such as exclusion, spreading rumors, and manipulating relationships, and it can have a significant impact on the emotional and social development of our students. As educators and parents, it is our shared responsibility to foster an environment that encourages positive connections and addresses any challenges that may arise.
To support our students in navigating healthy relationships, we invite you to join us in promoting empathy, kindness, and open communication. Here are some ideas to reinforce these values at home:
- Encourage Open Dialogue: Create a safe space for your child to share their experiences and feelings. Discuss the importance of treating others with respect and kindness.
- Teach Empathy: Help your child understand the feelings of others by encouraging them to put themselves in someone else's shoes. This can promote understanding and compassion.
- Model Positive Behavior: Children learn by example, so let's be mindful of our own actions and interactions. Demonstrate respectful communication and conflict resolution strategies.
- Promote Inclusivity: Encourage your child to include others in activities and be aware of classmates who may feel left out. Small gestures of inclusion can make a significant difference.
- Stay Informed: Familiarize yourself with the signs of relational aggression and be proactive in addressing any concerns. Communication between home and school is vital for creating a supportive network for our students.
By working together, we can create a school environment that nurtures positive connections, resilience, and empathy. Thank you for your continued partnership in fostering a caring and inclusive community!
