Barton Families
10/4/2020
Dear Barton Families,
I hope that you are all finding a back-to-school routine that works for your family. As a school, we are looking at our routines and procedures daily in order to make them work better as we move along. Thank you for your ongoing patience, support and feedback as we have made some changes. Our biggest priority continues to be the health, safety and well-being of students and staff.
Daily Bus Tickets
One procedure that we hope you will continue helping us with is the daily bus ticket. We ask that you continue to fill them out and give them to your child(ren) to bring to school. Homeroom teachers collect these and send them to the office. These are important data points for the school if there is ever a chance that contact tracing has to occur. Recent situations in schools throughout the state have brought the importance of having this data readily available.
Short-term Closure Plans
Also, your child(ren) will be bringing home an academic work folder from school. Grades 5-8 sent these folders home Friday and grades K-4 will be sending them out before conferences on Thursday. In case of an emergency, short-term school closure, we would like students to have access to their education. The folders contain work that will continue or review the academic work they are doing in their classes. When students complete these assignments and bring them back to school upon reopening, we are able to assess student learning and not lose a day of school that has to be made up at the end of the year. The folder contains three days of work from each class. Students may also access their online Google Classroom during these short school closures to continue work they may have started and to check in with teachers and homerooms.
Student-led Conferences
This week we have student-led conferences on Thursday, October 8th and Friday, October 9th. Notices of your child's conference time went home with the oldest or only child in your family. During these conferences, teachers will check in with families and also review plans for short-term closure.
School Calendar Reminders
Thursday, October 8th is an early dismissal for teacher in-service. Students will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m. Friday, October 9th and Monday, October 12th, there will be no school for students.
I thank you for all that you do to support our school.

Important Reminder for Soccer
In accordance with the state, district, and school guidelines, and to provide a safe, athletic experience for all, we will implement new spectator guidelines for all OCSU soccer events.
Spectator Guidelines
All spectators are required to wear masks/facial coverings at all times.
All spectators are to remain physically distanced at all times (at least 6 feet apart) and should sit/stand ONLY with members of their own family.
Spectators should arrive as close to the event start time as possible and depart the event in a timely fashion so as to limit crowding.
All practices are closed except for players and coaches - please remain in your car if you come to pick up.
The school building is closed.
There is a 150 spectator limit set by the state.
I recognize that this will feel very different. If we work together and all follow these guidelines, we will be able to conduct safe and strong soccer games. Your cooperation is needed for us to make this work.
