Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Portage County's Mission

Our mission is to support seniors, adults with disabilities, and their families and caregivers by offering easy access to services and by fostering a caring community that values lifelong contribution, maximum independence, and individual dignity.

History of ADRC

The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Portage County started off in the 1970's as a aging and senior center. Then in the late 1990's and early 2000's, they added the disability services to the center. They offer services to seniors that are 55 years old and older and adults with disabilities that are 17 years and 6 months old. They offer many services for both aging seniors and transitioning or grown adults with disabilities.

Link to Transitioning

Parents and other members of an IEP team need to sign a Public Funding long-term release form to allow ADRC to review and look at IEP documents. This allows ADRC to evaluate what kind of transition a transitioning teenager has been exposed to and how ADRC can further a successful and smooth crossover from high school into adulthood. ADRC looks more into home setting and daily living transitioning, not academic information.

OTHER WAYS ADRC OF PORTAGE COUNTY HELPS WITH THE TRANSITIONING PROCESS:

  • Pair with other community partners for more opportunities
  • offers a Child to Adult Social Worker
  • Connects with Special Education Teachers to gain the newest and most effective strategies
  • Converse and strategize with parents to decide whats best for an adult with a disability
  • Counseling Services
  • Adult IQ testing
  • Life skill classes

How is ADRC of Portage County Funded?
