Information about Standards-Based Grading
Standards-based grading teaches students what quality looks like. In the adult world everything is a performance assessment in which quality matters, and the ability to measure the quality of one’s own work is a learned skill. This grading system creates an environment where standards can and must be met. If we base our grades on attendance, behavior, or extra credit (which has nothing to do with content objectives), we do not help students understand the idea of quality or help them measure their performance.
MWES Awards Update (Reprint from 11/11/19)
If your child has earned an academic or citizenship award, the award ribbon will be sent home with the student at the end of each quarter. We will be revising the academic awards criteria throughout the course of this year to better align with the new standards based grading model. During this transition period, instead of awards assemblies we will be holding quarterly pep rallies to celebrate and encourage good citizenship in students. This celebration of good citizenship supports the new grading model by celebrating all students equitably and recognizing positive behavior, instead of only acknowledging those who have met the academic standard at a prescribed point in the school year. Please be patient with us as this process evolves. More information can be found about PWCS' standards-based grading at: https://www.pwcs.edu/academics___programs/student_learning/grading.
