Narcan:
Naloxone, sold under the brand name Narcan, is a medication used to reverse the effects of opioids. Narcan is commonly used to counter decreased breathing in opioid overdose and blocks the effects of opioids from 30 to 90 minutes. Naloxone may also be combined with an opioid to decrease the risk of misuse through injection. Life-saving effects begin within two minutes when given intravenously, and within five minutes when injected into a muscle. Narcan can also be administered by spraying it into a person's nose.
MAT- Medication Assisted Treatment- is a treatment modality for Opioid Use Disorder that uses medications like Suboxone to treat the withdrawal symptoms from long term opioid use. These medication bind to similar receptor sites in the body as opioids but do not induce euphoria or sedation. The medication is designed to prevent abuse through injection or inhalation. The medication dramatically reduces the pain of withdrawal and allows the patient to return to their life immediately. Success rates for MAT combined with counseling and PEER support is 60% successful versus 1% with traditional models like abstinence and faith based rehab.
New Horizons has recently opened an MAT clinic in Martin County to support this treatment method.

Every day is a celebration!
Make a Difference Mondays! There is no excuse not to spend a little time helping your school and local community. Opportunities for service are listed in the Clark newsletter on Fridays and there are ways to help both on and off campus, so pick a cause and help make a difference. You’d be surprised how great it feels to help others!
Take Care Tuesdays! You hear all over the place how important self care is, but what does that even mean? Well, it means different things to different people. Sometimes it is taking deep breaths, sometimes it is seeking counseling through faith or an agency, it might be exercising or eating healthier, and sometimes it is simply vegging out in front of the TV. The goal of self-care, however, is always to give our minds and bodies a break since we live in a stressful world. It is important… make sure you find ways to work in some self care this week!
Way to Go Wednesdays! Brayden Sinicki was quick to deliver a left behind beverage to the classroom when he saw a student had hurried of to Ms. Dunn’s room and left it by the comfy chairs. One less bottle for the lost and found and a genuinely caring action!
Thankful Thursdays! Today we are grateful for the students, parents, and staff members who got on the big red bus yesterday to donate blood and save lives. The bus will return in a couple months and we’d love to see our school save over 50 lives by filling every bed there!
Fun Fact Fridays! On Jan. 19, 1977, snow fell in South Florida for the first time in recorded history. Even though it’s forecasted to be in the 30s this weekend, the weather report is just calling for us to all bundle up, but it doesn’t seem this 45 year old record will be broken.
