Mr. Corso's Principal's Weekly Update
Positive Raiders: Responsible, Respectful, Hard Working and Kind
On Thursday, the PUSD School Board approved the following revisions to PUSD’s secondary reopening planning:
Secondary will continue with the current model of fully virtual learning while:
Purposefully increasing the numbers of students on campus through expanding small groups
Increasing pilot groups utilizing concurrent model
Refining virtual learning with input from students
All secondary teachers will be trained on the simultaneous/concurrent model
All secondary schools will open by January 19, utilizing concurrent/simultaneous model with the following schedule for students who chose the on-campus option:
Students attend on-campus 2 days/week
Students receive 2 days/week virtual instruction
Fridays will be asynchronous learning
Based on this new information, we are offering families the opportunity to change their learning preference response. In the summer, PUSD asked families for their preference. Please answer this new survey IF YOU HAVE CHANGED YOUR PREFERENCE by November 20 LINK
A NEW Way to Support Our Teachers: While we can’t gather in person for our traditional Fall Fest fundraising event, we can still come together to help our teachers meet the needs of our students. Our Education Foundation has organized a website listing the wish lists of our teachers. Go here LINK to see your students’ teachers’ wish lists.
Your donation goes directly to BMMS teachers to fund the items they need most. I also have a Principal’s Wish List that I created to fund the items that BMMS needs most to help our school run smoothly. Don’t see your teacher listed? They may not know what they need - yet! In that case, you can also donate to the Teacher Grants fund, and the Foundation will grant teachers’ needs throughout the 2020-2021 school year.
This website will run until midnight Tuesday, November 17th. This will replace Fall Fest, which has always been the primary source of parent-funded teacher donations. We thank you in advance for supporting our teachers and our students.
Thank you to those who have already donated!
Next week at a Glance (Nov. 16-20):
Monday: Late start, Periods 1-7
Tuesday: Homeroom plus Periods 1-3
Wednesday: Homeroom plus Periods 4/5-7 (no student has both 4 and 5)
Thursday: Homeroom plus Periods 1-3
Friday: Homeroom plus Periods 4/5-7 (no student has both 4 and 5)
Does Your Student Want to be Successful? Are they Struggling: I shared this special message LINK with them on Friday. Students who create a regular routine, turn on their cameras, ask questions and attend Office Hours can be more successful. Together, we can help them be their best.
ADOPT A FAMILY: As the coronavirus presents us with uncharted territory, PUSD is currently working hard to fill the needs of our families during this national pandemic. Please consider donating a gift card or adopting a family this holiday season for our BMMS families in need. Please go to the sign-up genius to see what gift cards are needed: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090b48acaf2fa5f49-adoptafamily.
Drop off gift cards to our front office during school hours, 7:30am-3:00pm.
One of our teachers, Mrs. Telles, made a video celebrating relatives of BMMS staff that have served as military veterans. The video was shared with students on Friday during Homeroom. Here is a LINK.
