Growth Mindset
Parenting is really hard.
Having a growth mindset helps.
Click this link to read what a growth mindset is and how you can impact your child's outlook and successes.
Cell Phones in School and Nursing
Parents please explain to your child that if they are sick they need to go to the clinic and the nurse will call home if they need to be picked up. The nurse will never ask the child to call from their cell phone. It is important for the nurse to be involved in the decision to be picked up, to ensure we are properly treating children and following up. If your child calls you and asks you to pick them up from the office or a cell phone, please ask to speak to the nurse, secretary or call the school office. We have seen an increase of students calling their parents (from their cell phones) to pick them up after seeing the nurse. The nurse has determined the child has no or minimal symptoms (symptoms that we call home for fever, vomiting, rash etc). Attendance in school is important.
Outdoor Recess Guidelines and Shorts
As the weather starts to turn colder, please make sure your child has the proper clothing to go outside. We will go outside when it is cold and snowing. Our guidelines for cold temperatures will be followed and monitored closely. The temperature for outdoor recess is 20 degrees with the windchill.
Please make sure student have appropriate gear to be in the elements. Winter coats, gloves, hats are important. Students should have hats, gloves, winter coats, boots if it is snowing.
Football
At this point, we are no longer playing football at recess, please do not allow your child to bring a football to school.
Math Night - Thank you to all that attended
On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, we held our first math night. The night was organized by the parent partnership committee, PTA and staff at Brooklyn School.
We had about 21 families participate. We had many stations set up and families were able to go to as many stations as they wanted too. Many of the stations provides families with games to make and take at home to practice those skills.
Thank you to all the helped make the night awesome and thank you to all that participated.
RISE up in Brooklyn School -Cafeteria
Our students have been struggling with keeping their eating area clean. Students are dropping wrappers, food etc on the floors and not picking them up. They are leaving their garbage on the tables too. Please talk with your child why keeping their area clean is important and why picking up after themselves is important. Here are our rules for the cafeteria...
- Eat all of their lunch and wait to be dismissed to the garbage area (many of our kids like to get up and throw each piece of garbage away as they use it.
- If food or trash fall onto the floor, pick it up
- When sitting at their table, talk quietly to the kids beside you
- If a child needs an item, k-5 - has it on their table, 6-7 has a location to get it
- If a child needs to use the restroom or has a question, raise their hand and wait patiently.
- Sometimes the noise level gets to loud, we ask them to sit quietly
- When we stand in common areas for dismissal or lining up, we are at a level 0 for noise (no talking, facing forward)
- Keep hands and feet to self (not touching the people around you)
- Following directions - when an adult talks to a student, they need to be respectful and responsible.
During dinner or families, talk about how this is modeled at home and school.
We appreciate your support.
