STILLSON SPIRIT
November 2019 Newsletter
Dear Stillson Families:
Teachers and staff had time for Professional Development and continued student planning on October 24 and 25. We focused on student social-emotional success, overview of an English Language Arts (ELA) balanced literacy program, and creating units of study with our Next Generation Science Standard (NGSS). A lot of productive time and energy was used throughout the district for planning and future needs.
Thank you to all families that were able to attend our parent-teacher conferences at the end of October. We had about a 98% turn out. This definitely shows all of us the importance and value that you put in your child’s education and we thank you for that. It is certainly a great night to review progress and have any questions answered. We continue to appreciate your involvement with your child’s education.
Our fast-pace doesn’t seem to slow down as November brings more exciting times for us. On Saturday, Nov. 2, PTO will have their Craft Expo at Stillson. Come out and enjoy time shopping at all the different vendors. On Tuesday, November 5, we will have our first 3 Be Celebration for the students hard work in following our 3 Be expectations with an assembly about the Power of YET!!
Then there is Thanksgiving…...May you and your family have time to be together and enjoy each other’s company this Thanksgiving. It is the perfect time to remember our blessings. I am thankful for the dedicated staff and wonderful students and families that I see and work with every day. I believe that we are all working together to help our students to be their best. We look forward to working together throughout the school year. If you have questions, suggestions, feedback or concerns, please feel free to contact any staff member or myself.
Sincerely yours in Stillson success,
Mrs. Carol Wilczek

Weather Reminder
Students will be going outside during recess except when the actual temperature or wind chill is –6 or colder. They will be allowed to play in the snow if dressed properly. It is also important to label your child’s clothing and boots. Recess is an important time for social interaction. Exercise is a critical component for healthy growth and academic success.
All students will be expected to go outside for recess.

Student Safety
- The speed limit on the front road of Stillson is 15 MPH when there are students present. This pertains to any time in the morning and afternoon when there are busses and cars present, unloading and loading students.
- It is NOT permitted at any time for a vehicle to pass a school bus, even if the bus is stopped in front of the school. Please refrain from doing so as the busses are usually unloading children at this time and is a continuing safety concern.
- The speed limit in the side parking lot and front parking lot is 5 MPH. This is especially important as we have students using the cross walk, unloading and loading busses, and moving about while school is in session.
- We have an adult crossing guard for the morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. She uses the crosswalk on Highway J with a STOP sign for our children to cross. Please remember to come to a full stop when you see our adult crossing guard in the crosswalk.
Thank you for being proactive in making Stillson a safe place.

Cartridges for Cash
We are collecting empty inkjet and toner cartridges to turn in for cash! We have partnered with a company that will pay us for our empty cartridges and issue a check for their value on a monthly basis.
Most empty inkjet cartridges are worth $1 to $2.50 each, and some laser cartridges are worth up to $8.00! Our “paycheck” could add up fast, so please help by bringing all the cartridges you use!
Here’s how you can help:
· Don’t put empty cartridges in the trash!
· Please bring all empty cartridges to the LMC.
· Bring empty cartridges from home and add to the collection (and our check!)
They will also take our recycled and refurbished cartridges to dispose in a safe and environmentally friendly way.

Girls on the Run - Coaches Needed!
"Want to have a fun, rewarding volunteer experience while helping your girls unlock their limitless potential? Coach with Girls on the Run at Stillson Elementary School! Our amazing coaches from last season are taking a step back this year, so we are looking for three new coaches for the 2020 season by the end of December to keep the program going strong! We love having the Girls on the Run program at Stillson Elementary School, but without three new volunteers by the end of the month, there will not be a team for the 2020 season.
You don't need to be a runner or have any coaching experience to be a great Girls on the Run coach! We accept all men and women who want to make a difference, and we make it easy for you!
Girls on the Run provides all of the materials and training you need to have an amazing season. We even pay for the healthy snacks at each lesson. The season is 10 weeks from the last week in February through mid-May 2020, and practices are right after school from 2:45- 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practices follow the school calendar- so no school, no practice!
If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of girls at Stillson Elementary School with the Girls on the Run program, please contact Janel Seaholm at seaholjm@chipfalls.org.
Questions? Please don't hesitate to contact our Program Director, Emily Steines, at emily.steines@girlsontherun.org or visit our website at gotrchippewavalley.org."
