EEE Precautions at Mill Pond:
I wanted to follow-up on Superintendent Bock’s update from earlier today to address the impact of EEE on Mill Pond. As she mentioned, the health and welfare of our students here are our top priorities and we are being extremely thoughtful in all of our procedures to ensure students are safe and comfortable. We have communicated with the other principals, district administration, our medical staff, and field trip destination personnel before making any decision regarding outdoor activities.
At this time we are continuing with the recommended precautions of no outdoor activities from dusk to dawn, keeping our grounds well-mowed and free of standing water, and not taking nature walks in the woods surrounding our schools. As on most of our nature field trips, we recommend long sleeves and pants, and bug spray applied before school to prevent any ticks, mosquitoes or other bug bites. Per the Westborough Board of Health, effective mosquito repellent (such as Deep Woods Off) is good for up to 8 hours after application, so applying this (or similar) repellent prior to school will work for all-day protection. Recess, PE and other outdoor activities during the day are continuing as usual as supported by the Board of Health. We feel these considerations are providing a learning environment that is safe, enjoyable and not restrictive for our students.
We will continue to regularly communicate with all parties involved, and update you as we learn more information.
Worthy Words Wednesday
STUDENT COUNCIL
Supporting Others
1) Last week our staff raised money to support the Red Cross's efforts in the Bahamas. We have challenged our students to each bring in $1 dollar to try and match our total. All money will be combined and donated to the Bahamas Red Cross.
2) We are working with the Westborough Veteran's Advisory Board to build some care packages for a deployed Marines Unit out of Fort Devens. Please see the picture below on how you can help.
Other Proud Updates...
Open House Schedule:
5th Grade - September 17th 6:30 - 7:30
6th Grade - September 18th 6:30 - 7:30
4th Grade - September 26th 6:30 - 7:30
Picture Day:
Picture Day will be on September 25th. More information will be coming soon!
Just another reminder if you have not done these:
We need all parents/guardians to log into the Powerschool Parent Portal and complete our “First Day Forms”. Please follow the directions on this link to complete them. Thank you for doing this as soon as possible.
Ipad Information -
All students at Mill Pond get to use their own school-issued iPad. Our 4th graders leave them at school, and our 5th and 6th graders bring them back and forth between school and home. We provide our students with a great deal of guidance around appropriate use and care. In the First Day Forms, you should have read about the guidelines we set for students around the iPad.
5th and 6th-grade teams will be determining when iPads will start to travel home with students. However, if the sign-off, in the First Day Forms, is not complete the student will not be able to take the iPad home. More communication around the date students will be bringing home will come from your child's teachers.
Mill Pond Parent Group (MPPG) Information:
We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful and supportive parent group supporting our school. Please help support them in any way. Here is some information from them:
Our first MPPG meeting is Thursday, Sept. 12, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Professional Development Room at Mill Pond. We will be voting in the 2019-2020 executive board, talking about our mission and upcoming events and opportunities to get involved, getting feedback on future meeting days/times, and hearing an update from Peter. Please come and join, everyone is invited!
There are some flyers attached to the end of this Newsletter with more information, please take a look!
