What's New In C2

October 16 - October 27

Coming up in the next couple of weeks, second graders will be learning how to identify and create compound words. Similarly, we will be studying the 5W’s. The 5W’s ask and answer such questions such as who, what, where, when, why and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.

In addition, we will also be doing a deeper study of vocabulary and will be learning how to use glossaries and dictionaries. We will celebrate our learning on October 31 with a Vocabulary Parade (more info coming soon from your lead learner).

We are working on our Dolch sight words in second grade. Your child has been assessed on these words and we will be learning the second grade list of words this year. Practice at home is always encouraged! If you are looking for some resources to work with your chiild on their sight words, check these out:

After we have completed this standard, we will begin learning about various addition strategies to help launch us into an addition unit.

2.NBT.9 - I can explain why adding and subtracting strategies work using what I know about place value.

Ongoing standards: 2.OA.B.2

Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.2 By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
